Chloe watched as Connor's ears turned a deep shade of red, which made her giggle. Leaning in close, she whispered playfully, "How about we sneak out tonight?"
Connor glanced at her, noting her mischievous grin. Raising an eyebrow, he teased, "Already craving my company?"
Chloe smirked back, "What are you on about? I'm just craving your homemade BBQ ribs."
Connor chuckled, "Alright, alright, I'll whip some up for you once we're back home, you little foodie."
Chloe settled onto the bed, curious, "So, how did they even find us?"
Connor explained, "Isaac managed to hack the interference system, but all he could figure out was that we were in the remote woods near Cloud City. With no signal, Jeffery pulled every string possible and set up a full-scale search with the local police for three days and nights. It was like searching for a needle in a haystack. Then, Ms. Ruby stumbled across old files from Claire's kidnapping case and guessed she might have taken us to the same spot she and Hank were held years ago. With those scant details and everyone's tireless efforts, they finally nailed down our location."
Chloe felt a wave of gratitude. Connor had made it sound simple, but she knew the immense perseverance and belief it had taken from everyone involved. Claire once said hope was the cheapest thing in the world, but Chloe believed it was the best. She and Connor had survived thanks to the blazing hope that became a weapon against death itself, and in the end, they had won.
Chloe studied Connor's expression, "What about Claire? Did they catch her?"
Connor's face grew serious. "No, she and Barrett vanished. They're still at large."
Chloe felt a chill. Claire being out there was like having a ticking time bomb looming over them. She was utterly unpredictable.
