“Shut up.”
Grant's forehead was slick with sweat. He needed to focus completely; even a tiny mistake could change everything. Maddie stayed quiet, feeling the tension in the air. Grant finished with the needles, removing them one by one. Chloe stayed unconscious, even after the last needle was pulled from her brow. Maddie couldn't help but ask, "Why isn't she waking up?"
Grant carefully put the needles away and replied, "She'll be in a coma for three days. When she wakes up, she won't remember a thing." With that, he lifted Chloe into his arms. "The rest is on you. Set everything up—don’t let me down again." He carried Chloe out, heading for the rooftop where a helicopter was waiting.
Maddie followed, and behind her was another woman, bound tightly and dressed in a hospital gown. At a glance, she looked just like Chloe—same build, face, even hairstyle. Maddie turned to Grant and asked, "Are you really okay with destroying everything you've worked on?"
Grant gave her a sharp look. "If anyone notices something’s off, you’re jumping off here." Maddie went silent at his words. Grant added, "Wait until Connor shows up before you push her. I want to see how he reacts when the woman he loves dies in front of him."
Grant stayed icy and calm. Maddie said nothing more, just nodded. The bound woman cried and pleaded, but Grant didn’t even glance her way. He looked at Chloe in his arms, his expression softening just a bit.
