Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover novel Chapter 989

It might have been just a fleeting moment. Yet, it felt like ages had slipped by. Time seemed to hit pause right on him. Everything froze in that instant. He wished time would freeze, too. But, truth be told, it hadn't. The elevator doors had already shut tight. Connor finally snapped back to reality. He raced to the elevator doors, frantically jabbing at the button. But it was no use. He dashed towards the stairwell, taking the stairs two at a time. In his rush, he missed a step and took a tumble. Connor lay sprawled out in the middle of the stairwell. Just a brief pause. His senses kicked back in. Was it Chloe? Or had he been mistaken? Or maybe, just like before, it was a woman who looked eerily similar. Over the past two years, he'd been through this scenario more times than he could count. And each time it wasn’t her, it felt like a sucker punch to his spirit. This time, an unexplainable dread crept into his heart. The eagerness he felt suddenly morphed into hesitation. Did he really want to find out again? Maybe it was just another elaborate letdown the universe had crafted for him. Connor lay there in the stairwell, not bothering to get up. His heart was still pounding like a drum in his chest. Could it really be her? He had no idea how long he'd been there. Maybe just a few minutes. Connor got to his feet, although his ankle protested with a sharp stab of pain at every step. But he shrugged it off. He reached out to the hotel’s general manager. Before long, he found himself in the surveillance room. Every bit of footage from the hotel’s public areas was queued up. Connor searched and searched but couldn’t spot the woman again. He had to rewind the footage. Finally, he saw the clip where she and Tim crossed paths in the hallway where Tim had vanished. Even though the camera was positioned high up, the footage was crystal clear. The woman’s face filled the screen. Connor nearly stopped breathing. Her face was a dead ringer for Chloe’s. His heart raced uncontrollably, and he turned to the manager, “I need to know who she is, right now.” The manager glanced at the screen and said, “Mr. Connor, I know her. That’s Rose. She’s Japanese, with a husband and a child. They live in Cherry Blossom Town and are regulars here.” Hearing this felt like a lightning bolt hit Connor. Rose. Japanese? With a family? Disappointment hit him like a tidal wave. Connor looked at the woman on the screen. Her demeanor was definitely not Chloe’s. She had a gentle calm, like a traditional Japanese housewife. And she couldn’t speak Old English at all. Maybe he had been through this kind of letdown too many times. Connor quickly pulled himself together. He turned to his assistant and said, “Find out where they live, and prepare a gift. No matter what, she found Tim, and I owe her a thank you.” Meanwhile, Chloe hurried back to her room. As soon as she walked in, she noticed Lucas had already packed up all their bags. Aaron was standing off to the side. Chloe rushed over, crouching down next to Aaron. “Aaron, what’s up?” Aaron looked a bit lost, “Mom, I’m alright.” Chloe frowned and turned to Grayson, “What’s going on?” Lucas snapped the suitcase shut. “We’ve got to leave, right now.” “Why?” “I don’t have time to explain.” Seeing the worry on Grayson’s face, Chloe didn’t press further. She just asked, “Are we going home?” Lucas shook his head, “We’re heading somewhere else.” “Where to?” Lucas seemed to have everything figured out. He straightened up after packing, “We’re going to Disney World. Aaron’s never been, so let’s have some fun there for a few days.”
