Don't Try to Escape, My Wife! novel Chapter 1143

"Mommy, maybe you should call Daddy."

Joseph grabbed Nicole's sleeve, and a trace of unease flashed through his eyes.

Nicole hesitated.

She knew that Joseph was worried about her. This situation was indeed abnormal. However, today was a special day. The martyr Lexie was being carried in the front of the procession, and all the soldiers were marching forward. If she called Samuel back because of this, it would be inappropriate.

After a while of hesitation, Nicole carried Joseph in her arms and closed the car door.

She took out her phone and called a towing company, while she followed behind the procession with Joseph in her arms.

Noticing his mom had become more cautious and composed than before, Joseph couldn't help but look at her a few more times and found that she was more beautiful than ever.

Although Nicole did not know if the breakdown was an accident, she still heaved a sigh of relief after the phone call.

The procession entered the Martyrs' Cemetery. Because Nicole and Joseph weren't soldiers, they didn't have the qualifications to get in, so they could only stand outside and wait.

To them, standing here waiting for Lucas and Samuel was also a kind of silent company.

There was a memorial service inside. Waves of sad music made people feel depressed, and the snowflakes in the sky added a trace of sadness.

Nicole watched Lexie's mother faint a few times from crying, her heart aching badly.

"Mommy, where is Lexie's daddy?" Joseph asked in confusion.

"Her father is in the hands of terrorists and hasn't returned yet. He hasn't even seen his daughter for the last time," Nicole whispered.

This was the helplessness and greatness of a soldier.

Nicole put herself in the shoes of Lexie's father. She thought about what she would do if Lucas was the one who had been killed.

At the thought of this, Nicole couldn't help but sweat profusely.

Even imagining it was unbearably painful.

She even felt her entire body tremble.

She wasn't that noble and couldn't bear to send her son to the battlefield, but what if Lucas insisted on it?

Nicole knew that she would not force her son, but this profession...

She shook her head abruptly, not thinking about these things for the time being.

Suddenly, there was a loud bang, and the entire ground seemed to shake a little. Joseph couldn't stand firmly and grabbed Nicole.

Nicole supported him, and she staggered. She looked at the place where the explosion had occurred. It was her car!

Both Joseph and Nicole were stunned.

If she had gotten out of the car and checked the reason for the breakdown earlier, she would probably have turned into a pile of ashes by now.

This realization scared Nicole. Joseph grabbed her hand and found that her palm was sweaty.

Samuel and the others heard the explosion and quickly ran out.

"What happened?"

When he saw that the car that exploded was the one Nicole was driving, his face paled.

Lucas' eyes widened with shock.

"Mommy!"

He ran towards the car, tears in his eyes.

When Nicole saw Lucas come out, she looked at his face and knew that he was frightened. She hurriedly stepped forward and grabbed his arm.

"Lucas, I'm here, and Joseph is also here. We were not in the car."

Hearing Nicole's voice, Lucas looked back.

He was still immersed in the sorrow caused by Lexie's death. Now his mom's car had exploded. Lucas didn't know how to cope with the situation. When he saw Nicole, he ran into her arms and his entire body trembled.

When Samuel heard Nicole's voice, he looked over. Seeing that she and Joseph were safe and sound, he heaved a sigh of relief.

"What was the matter?"

He ran to them and asked Nicole gently.

As she briefly told him what happened, some people had started to put out the fire.

When Samuel learned that it was Joseph's reminder that had saved them both, he stroked the boy's hair and praised, "Well done, Joseph."

Joseph shook his head. He was obviously terrified.

After all, it was Nicole's car that exploded. After confirming that she and Joseph were safe, Samuel immediately joined in the fire extinguishing operation.

Lucas quickly calmed down. His beautiful almond-shaped eyes gleamed with determination that no one else could understand.

Terrorists were too hateful!

He couldn't just sit back and let terrorists get their way!

Lucas had never felt the responsibility of being a soldier so strongly.

He would overcome his dissociative identity disorder! He would train hard! And he would continue to serve in the army!

Otherwise, he wouldn't even be able to protect his family.

Nicole's and Samuel's identities and statuses meant that their lives would not be ordinary and would be full of intrigues and dangers.

He was their child. He must protect his parents and Joseph and Zoe. He had to be strong.

Back in South Africa, he didn't kill innocent people but hateful terrorists. He was a righteous man. Even if his hands were stained with blood, it was for the protection of his family and his country!

Lucas didn't feel bad anymore.

He looked into Nicole's worried eyes and said firmly, "Mommy, I'll go over and help."

With that, Lucas quickly joined the people putting out the fire.

Nicole couldn't convince herself to agree.

She wanted to stop him, but before she could do anything, he was already gone.

At this moment, she sensed how determined her son was to be a serviceman.

It broke her heart to think that her son's life could be at risk, but she could not force him to change his mind, and she was extremely conflicted for a moment.

Joseph didn't let go of Nicole's hand for a second. Not even when the armed troops arrived, and the surroundings seemed to be very safe. Instead, he held her hand even tighter.
