Chapter 245
Wendy had taken a solid fall, and Lucas used both hands to help her up.
She leaned into him instinctively, her body pressing lightly against his.
It was summer, after all, and with both of them dressed lightly in sleepwear, the scene looked far more intimate than it should’ve.
Aurora stepped out just in time to see it and the sight hit her like a bolt of lightning
“What are you doing?”
No one knew how long she’d been standing there before she finally found her voice and asked the question.
Lucas was quick to explain. “She fell. I was helping her up.”
“Yeah, look, I even hurt my face, Aurora,” Wendy chimed in, pointing to the faint red mark on her cheek.
Aurora’s gaze shifted to the mark. There was indeed a visible sign of the fall.
But still…
“So you just happened to fall, right here, at our bedroom door? How convenient”
Aurora couldn’t help the dry laugh that escaped her lips.
What were the odds? And right as she’d finished washing up, no less.
She had to admit, Wendy was calculated.
Honestly, Aurora felt she deserved an award.
Even Lucas started to feel something was off.
Wendy fell because he suddenly opened the door.
But still…
His eyes narrowed slightly, and he said quietly, “Enough, Rora. Let her go back to her room.”
He didn’t want Aurora’s attention lingering on Wendy any longer.
This was their life and space–Wendy was an outsider.
He was already considering whether it was time to send Wendy away altogether.
But to Aurora, his words meant something else entirely.
“So what, you think I’m picking on her now?”

She stared at him, disbelief written all over her face.
That tone and choice of words clearly showed he was siding with Wendy.
Even Wendy herself couldn’t hide the surprise and delight in her eyes as she looked at Lucas.
She just knew Lucas would never truly leave her behind.
That bond they shared since childhood–how could someone like Aurora, who came into the picture so much later, possibly
understand it?
“Lukey, I’m so glad you’re here,” Wendy said sweetly, bringing up old memories on purpose.
“Remember when I broke the neighbor’s window when we were kids? You covered for me then too… You’ve always been there.”
Her eyes glistened with a tangled, veiled affection, locked unwaveringly on Lucas.
Aurora let out a cold laugh. “Got it.”
So, they were the real couple now, and she was the third wheel? Was that what this was?
“Enough. You should get some rest,” Lucas said, not even bothering to ask about Wendy’s injury.
He could see clearly that Aurora was not in a good mood.
