Chapter 250
“Alright, I got it.”
Aurora nodded, brushing it off like the matter had been settled.
Her indifferent tone made something twist in Lucas‘ chest.
He felt wronged too–hurt even–but what could he say?
He couldn’t bring himself to lash out at her.
All he could do was mutter a quiet, “Got it,” and turn to leave the room.
Aurora let the towel fall from her hand as she stood there, deflated like a balloon with all the air let out.
She had put on a strong front, but really, it was all for show..
Her strength was nothing but a thin layer barely holding her together.
Back in his room, Lucas didn’t feel much better.
After everything they’d been through, no matter what he did or said, he still couldn’t get through to her.
He tossed his phone onto the bed and pressed a hand to his forehead, feeling the weight of it all.
Was their relationship really going to fall apart because of someone like Wendy?
The thought alone left a bitter taste in his mouth.
Still, the next morning, when he went to find Aurora to talk things out, he discovered the guest room was empty.

When they got home that evening, Wendy quickly noticed something was off between them.
There was something subtle in the air–tense, quiet, cold.
But she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.

conversation.

Had they fought?

She couldn’t hold it in any longer and finally asked, “Lukey, why aren’t you talking to Aurora? What’s going on between you.
two?”
Her question hung in the air..
Lucas and Aurora glanced at each other for a brief second, then just as quickly, looked away.
Lucas‘ voice was cold. “It’s nothing. Just eat your dinner.”
Aurora, however, couldn’t help but throw a jab. “Yeah, we fought. Feel free to pack your bags. Looks like your chance to move up has finally come.”
With that, she gave a lazy toss of her hair and turned on her heel, walking straight out the door and heading for the office.
She left Lucas and Wendy staring at each other in awkward silence.
Wendy’s eyes filled with tears instantly, shimmering as she looked pitifully at Lucas. “Lukey, did she… did she misunderstand
me?”
