Chapter 351
Lucas couldn’t bear to think how much longer Wendy would have hurt Aurora if he hadn’t overheard everything just now.
Or to put it another way, how much longer would the truth have been kept from him?
Just thinking about it made Lucas feel a little uneasy.
After all, Wendy grew up following him around and treating him like an older brother all these years.
He had cared for her too, truly treating her like a younger sister he doted on.
But at some point, that feeling seemed to have changed.
Or maybe, it wasn’t just him who had changed.
Lucas furrowed his brows, his expression darkening further.
Out of the corner of her eye, Wendy saw his reaction and grew even more terrified.
She instinctively reached out to tug on Aurora’s clothes, but Aurora swiftly stepped away.
Aurora didn’t hesitate for a second. She looked at Wendy as if she were a pitiful clown.
“What’s wrong? You’re scared now?”
Wendy shook her head through her tears.
“No, please, Aurora, don’t hold it against me. I really… I was really just joking with you. I didn’t even know what I was saying. I swear I won’t bother you and Lukey anymore. Please, just let me stay.”
Watching her cry and plead like that, Aurora was a little surprised. What kind of obsession made her cling this tightly?
Aurora started to wonder–if she allowed Wendy to stay, what else might this woman try to pull?
She didn’t like hiding potential threats in the dark. It was better to keep them right where she could see them.
With that thought, Aurora finally relented.
“Fine. Since you want to stay so badly, you can. But from now on, I don’t want to see you wherever I am.”
Hearing this, Wendy cried tears of gratitude and said, “Don’t worry, Aurora. As long as you said that, I feel much better. I promise I’ll never appear in front of you again. Whenever you’re around, I’ll stay hidden in my rooin. You’ll never see me.”
Aurora let out a soft “Mm” and simply looked at Wendy without saying anything.
But the meaning in her eyes was clear–she was questioning, “Why are you still here?”
At that moment, Wendy grew sensible enough to understand. She immediately turned and headed back to her room.
“Don’t worry, Aurora. I’ll make sure you won’t see me. I mean what I say,” Wendy promised, keeping her head low as she hurried past Lucas toward her room.
Still, as she brushed by Lucas, she hesitated for a brief moment, lips pressed into a tight line, before silently slipping back inside and shutting the door with a loud bang.
It was only then that Lucas snapped out of it. He quickly crossed the room to Aurora, pulling her into his arms, cutting off whatever she had been about to say.
