Chapter 389
Because he was so conflicted, Jason paced back and forth in the hospital room, scratching his head.
He didn’t know whether to tell Aurora about it or not.
But even if he decided to speak up, he had no idea what kind of excuse he could give.
Jason had been in the room for a long time, completely at a loss for what to do next.
Staring at Grace, still unconscious in bed, he muttered under his breath, “Madam Grace, if you were awake, you’d definitely know what to do…”
Jason was starting to panic.
And he had no clue how to handle the board either.
Just thinking about all that gave him a headache.
Forget it, it was better to just let things be.
After all, he was just an employee.
Why get so worked up over everything?
It wasn’t like overthinking things would earn him a raise.
With that thought, Jason gave up and slumped into the couch, staring blankly at the clock, mentally counting the time until Tessa returned.
Meanwhile, Aurora had been waiting a long time without receiving any updates from Ian, growing increasingly anxious.
Faced with both Lucas and Leonard in the office, she felt helpless, unsure how to proceed.
The board had hidden Grace’s condition.
They were worried that news of her condition might leak and impact Walton Corporation’s stock prices.
Because of that, they didn’t dare say a word to the outside world, afraid that any slip could put the company at risk.
After all, Grace had spent so many years building her reputation.
Everything she did was closely tied to the company.
At this point, Grace had become the very face of the corporation, which left Aurora with no choice but to wait for word from Ian.
She had no other leads to go on and where to even start searching.
Seeing the worry all over her face, Leonard spoke up, trying to comfort her. “Don’t worry too much. If you need anything from me, just say the
word.”
“What a joke. You think my woman needs your help?”
Leonard’s words clearly got under Lucas‘ skin.
He yanked Aurora behind him possessively, his grip firm, his tone domineering and filled with jealousy.
Aurora didn’t resist and let him hold her.
Feeling the warmth of his palm, a sense of calm slowly settled in her heart.
Leonard watched the way the two of them interacted, saw how Lucas asserted his claim, and a wave of bitterness rose in his chest.
His hand, hanging at his side, clenched and unclenched.
No one knew how much effort it took for him not to storm out of the office in anger.
In the end, Leonard forced out a few words with difficulty, “Mr. Carter, you’ve misunderstood.”
“That’s for the best.”
Lucas‘ response landed heavily, and the trace of provocation at the corner of his lips stung Leonard’s eyes.
Chapter 389
The usually carefree tousled curls on his head now drooped lifelessly, clearly stripped of their usual energy.
Aurora was already in a foul mood from worrying about Grace.
Now, watching the two of them face off again, her irritation reached its peak.
