Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert) novel Chapter 100

As Sylvia was lost in thought, the comforting aroma of coffee wafted to her nose. Lifting her head, she found a steaming cup sitting beside her, as if it had appeared out of nowhere.

After a brief moment of surprise, her gaze shifted back to Rupert.

He stood casually, a fork in one hand and the other tucked into the pocket of his jeans. His crisp shirt accentuated his broad shoulders and lean frame, the epitome of effortless composure.

But this image didn't quite align with the one she had in her mind.

Silently sipping her coffee, Sylvia soon found Rupert placing a bowl of freshly cooked pasta in front of her.

"Eat up."

Snapping back to reality, Sylvia pursed her lips and shook her head. "No, thanks. I'm not hungry."

But her stomach betrayed her with a loud growl, flushing her cheeks with embarrassment.

Rupert, holding the bowl, raised an eyebrow slightly. "Shall I feed you?"

Knowing he was a man of his word, Sylvia quickly took the bowl from him.

Then, silence fell between them.

Rupert leaned back against the counter, lighting a cigarette, his gaze fixed on her through a thin veil of smoke.

Pretending not to notice, Sylvia took a bite of the pasta, momentarily stunned. As she suspected, Rupert was no stranger to the kitchen. The pasta was cooked perfectly, any longer and it would have been too soft.

But why would he know how to cook?

Unable to voice her question, Sylvia continued to eat in silence. As she was finishing, Rupert casually asked, "Why did you leave the hospital?"

Sylvia paused, her eyes on the clear broth of her pasta. "You're asking about the prenatal checkup, aren't you?"

Rupert, still smoking, gave a silent affirmation.

Tears welled up in Sylvia's eyes as she turned her gaze to the stars outside the window, her stomach churning.
