Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert) novel Chapter 234

Sylvia couldn't afford to linger any longer. Once she was sure no one was around, she quickly slipped out, intending to make a run for it, but a sharp pain shot through her ankle.

Gritting her teeth, she hobbled to the edge of the artificial lake. She had to lie on her stomach, stretching most of her body out over the water, to fish out her phone. But it had been submerged too long and wouldn't turn on.

Looks like she'd have to find a phone repair shop.

Pushing herself up, she was eager to get moving, but as soon as she took a step, the pain in her ankle was excruciating, forcing her to crouch down.

Sylvia pulled up her pant leg and realized that she had twisted her ankle earlier and then worsened it by crouching awkwardly in the bushes. Her ankle was now swollen and throbbing.

But this was no place to stick around.

She limped her way out of the hospital, taking care to use the side exit to avoid running into Bridget.

Once outside, she decided not to bother with a repair shop. Instead, she went straight to the nearest electronics store and bought an identical phone, fitting it with her old case.

Sure enough, as soon as she powered it up, there were ten missed calls from Bridget and a slew of frantic messages on Twitter.

Clearly, someone had tipped Bridget off, and she was worried Sylvia might have been seen with a man, prompting her to check with the most suspicious person she knew—Sylvia.

Sylvia opened Twitter, and Bridget's messages popped up:

"Where are you?"

"The studio said you left; where did you go?"

"Say something, I need to talk to you!"

"Why is your phone off?"

All demanding explanations from Sylvia.

Sylvia called Bridget back.

Bridget answered immediately, "Sylvia! Where have you been? Why was your phone off?"
