Her voice rose a notch. "I'm going to intern at Eloise's studio, too."
Sylvia blinked, taken aback.
But Julia shot up, anger lacing her tone. "Why? Sylvia and Bridget got in through a contest. How come you get in just like that?"
Freya shrank back, looking like a scared little thing, fiddling with the hem of her skirt.
"I… I just happened to get the chance. I thought I'd give it a try, and to my surprise, I got in. Sylvia, please don't be mad, okay?"
Freya's tears were like delicate flowers in a storm.
Helena glared at her. "Freya, stop it! Didn't you hear what the doctor said? Sylvia's not supposed to get upset. You bringing this up now is just making it worse."
Freya sobbed. "I really just got lucky, so I didn't have to work as hard as Sylvia. Once Sylvia gets better, we can work together. Wouldn't that be great?"
Lucky? Not having to work as hard? Waiting for Sylvia to get better?
Every word was a sting to Sylvia.
Julia's fists clenched tight.
Yet, Sylvia laughed. "Freya, congratulations! That's great news. I guess I'll have to be more proactive with my treatment so we can work together sooner."
Freya's smile twitched, unable to fully form, her face a mask of discomfort.
Sylvia continued with a smile. "Freya, why so quiet? Am I wrong?"
"Right, absolutely. Just focus on getting better. I need to use the restroom." Freya turned and darted out of the room, clutching her phone tightly, probably off to share the news.
After Freya left, Julia couldn't hide her frustration. "Freya gets into Eloise's studio too? That's just not fair."
Helena tugged at the sheets, venting, "Her grades are even worse than mine. What does Eloise see in her?"
"Don't worry, the studio isn't just looking for designers. If she was going to be a designer, she would have said so."
