Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert) novel Chapter 97

Freya bit her lip, her hands trembling as she shrugged off Rupert's jacket, then struggled to her feet.

Bridget glanced over and snorted with disdain, "Your figure? No one's interested. Just get lost."

Pale-faced and clutching her chest, Freya walked out of the emergency room, feeling the weight of everyone's gaze upon her. But she didn't run. Instead, she sobbed and huddled as if she might collapse.

A kind nurse came to her aid. "What's wrong, honey?"

"I…I fell into the water. How can I go anywhere looking like this?" Freya curled up even more.

The nurse quickly wrapped an arm around her. "Let me get you a jacket. Don't cry, sweetheart."

"Thank you, thank you so much..." Freya cried her heart out.

Seeing her so pitiful, the nurse felt a pang of sympathy.

Freya always knew her misery was her greatest asset, and she knew exactly how to use it.

Minutes later, Freya walked out of the ER building calmly, wearing someone else's jacket. She turned to look at the door, touching her aching face.

She thought, “Sylvia, Bridget, what's so great about you? Just wait, I'll surpass you both!”

...

Rupert walked upstairs to Sylvia's hospital room only to find the bed made neatly, with the scent of disinfectant still lingering in the air.

The cleaner, just coming out of the bathroom, noticed the affluent-looking man and immediately became cautious.

"Can I help you?"

"Where's the patient?"

"She was discharged." The cleaner, remembering something, quickly put down the trash bag she was holding. "Oh yes, she left a medical report on the bedside table for whoever came looking."

Rupert stepped forward, picked up the report, and frowned slightly at its contents.

The cleaner, wiping the doorknob, added, "The poor girl hurt her ankle pretty bad, and her arm was all scratched up by branches. The doctor wanted her to stay for observation, but she insisted on leaving."

Hearing this, Rupert's expression hardened, and he headed to his friend's office.

"You let her go?"
