Nolan smiled indulgently, gently pinching her cheek. “Of course. I’ll take you anywhere you want to go.” 

Standing at the doorway, watching their intimacy, the assistant felt a surge of complicated emotions. 

He thought of Aurelia, now silent forever, and felt a pang of sorrow. 

“Boss, I need to request some time off,” the assistant said quietly as he approached. 

Nolan looked up, frowning slightly. “Time off? With the wedding imminent and so much to be done? How can you possibly take leave now?”

However, Evangeline unexpectedly intervened“Nolan, we can postpone the wedding for a few days. After all, Aurelia’s gone now, and your heart and person belong to me completely. The wedding is just a ceremony–I want it to be magnificent and without regrets. That would be a better omen.” 

Nolan paused, seemingly struck by something in Evangeline’s words.

possible.” 

The assistant breathed a sigh of relief and turned to leave.

A bitter feeling rose in his chest–perhaps this was the best possible ending after all.
