Chapter 356 Going to Springbury

His dark eyes deepened a bit, “Don’t want to see me?”

No way!

After a moment of hesitation, I said directly, “There has been no

progress on Jacob’s case from the police station, and the Hinton Group has a lot of things waiting for you to do now. You don’t need to worry about me. I told you, I will consider our relationship, I’m not lying to you, so, you don’t need to worry about any other variables from me.”

Regardless of whether we end up together or not, I would give him a precise answer.

He paused slightly for a few seconds, saying, “Alright, then I’ll wait for your answer.”

I nodded, my tailbone aching terribly. I limped my way back home. The villa was pitch-dark, presumably because my mother and Alexander were not there.

I deserved to be in this mess, now lying here grimacing in pain, with not a single person by my side.

There was no one at home, and I didn’t even turn on the lights in the living room, so I went straight back to my bedroom. I had originally planned to take a bath, but the fall really hurt, so I simply washed my face and then lay down on the bed.

Wanted to fall asleep, but the pain kept me awake.

I called my mother, the phone rang several times but no one answered.

I called again, this time it was answered after three rings.

I quickly said, “Mom, are you coming back, I…”

“Ms. Conner, it’s me,” a gentle female voice came from the other end of the phone.

I stopped halfway through my sentence, hesitated for a few seconds, and said, “Marjorie?”

“Um, yes, it’s me,” she responded, “Do you have an urgent matter with Auntie Eileen? She just went downstairs to get my medicine. Please wait a moment, as soon as she comes back, I will immediately tell her to call you back.”

I paused for a moment, then said, “No, it’s nothing. I was just asking where she is. Are you feeling better?”

The woman’s gentle voice still came through the phone, “Much better now, I’m really sorry, Auntie Eileen and Alexander are both with me, I didn’t hold you up, did I?”

The words sounded fine, but for some reason, I felt uneasy. I said into the phone, “I’m fine, it’s just work. There’s too much going on, I can’t get away, I can’t come to see you. You take care of yourself, I’ll come to the hospital to see you once I’m done with my work.”

She smiled softly, “Mm-hmm, thank you, but you don’t need to fuss anymore. I have Auntie Eileen and Alexander taking care of me here. I already feel quite embarrassed. If I take up more of your time, I would feel even worse.”

I forced a laugh, exchanged a few polite words, and then hung up the phone.

I tossed my phone aside and lay on the bed, sighing silently. My butt hurt and I couldn’t sleep. I had originally wanted my mother to bring back some medicine for bruises when she returned, but I couldn’t find her, so I had to give up.

After lying down for a while, I, in a daze, fell asleep.

For the next two days, I hardly saw my mother and Alexander, as they were out early and returned late. I went to the company every day. Seeing me limp, Cory asked, “What happened?”

I didn’t have the nerve to admit that I fell because of my own stupidity, so I just laughed it off and said that I slipped and fell by accident.

Cory felt a bit distressed and came to my office at noon. He brought me a bunch of medicine and said, “Be careful when you walk in the future. You don’t know how to take care of yourself. Apply some medicine. If it really doesn’t work, I’ll accompany you to the hospital. Don’t leave any sequelae.”

I nodded, looking up at Cory with a sweet smile, “Got it, thank you, Cory.”

He sighed, a mix of helplessness and heartache.

The project in the southern district officially started, and I was basically engrossed in work. When I received a call from Walter, I was a bit confused, truly busy. Without even looking at the caller ID, I just said, “Hello.”

“It’s me!” The man’s voice on the other end of the phone was clear and crisp.

I paused for a moment, glanced at my phone, froze for a few seconds, and asked, “What’s the matter?”

The voice on the other end of the phone was still somewhat cold,

saying, “The plane at four in the afternoon, I’ll come to pick you up in a bit, we’ll meet up with grandma and the others at the airport.”
