Chapter 36 

It’s been around a week since we spent that night together. 

The next day, I couldn’t see myself in the mirror because, again, it was me who asked for it. 

I don’t know what he must be thinking about me. The next day, he went on a business trip, which gave me enough space to do what I wanted. 

We hadn’t communicated since then. I am not sure how to face him after what I’did and asked for that night. He hadn’t messaged me or tried to contact me either. 

“VAN!“‘I flinched at my place when Wanda shouted in my ear at the top of her lungs. 

“What?” I asked, placing my hand over my chest to calm down my heartbeats. 

“I have been calling you for the last 5 minutes and you are lost in your own world,” she complained. “Are you ok?” 

“Yes, Wanda, I am fine. I 

zoned out,” I told her. 

“Is everything right between you and Mr. Valentino?” She asked all of a sudden 

“Yes, why?” One of my eyebrows shot up out of curiosity. 

If Wanda asks a question, there is surely something hidden behind it. 

“Nothing,” she shrugged. “I was just asking casually,” she lied. 

“Spill it out, Wanda” I insisted 

“Actually, Mr. Valentino had a virtual meeting today. You know, in the meeting, I saw a client clinging to him. She was in the same room as him and was openly flirting with Mr. Valentino and all he was doing was smiling. She is the same client with whom he has spent the last few days on the trip. I couldn’t get why they were in the same room. Maybe I am just overthinking. They must have developed a good friendship bond these days.

A girl was flirting with him in public and he was acting normal. Not only this, he is sharing the same room with her. How could he do that when he doesn’t like me to wear another male’s coat, even in an 

emergency? 

I could feel a pang of jealousy rising in my heart. 

“No, everything is fine.” My words didn’t come across as confidently as they should. 

I shouldn’t be feeling this way. Ours is a fake marriage. I shouldn’t be thinking about him that much.. 

“Hey, wassup, girls?” Reggie, along with Jasper, came into the office. 

Wanda playfully slapped Reggie, which led to a playful banter between them. Jasper looked to my when Reggie suddenly broke the trace. 

“It’s been a long time since we four enjoyed some quality time together. It’s the weekend, so what do you think about going to our favourite place and having dinner together?” He proposed 

“Wow! It’s a brilliant idea!” Wanda jumped at her place. 

Both of them looked at mine and Jasper’s sides. 

“Fine!” 

Wanda and Reggie’s faces lit up at Jasper’s acceptance of the invitation. Now they were looking forward 

to me. 

“Uhh,” I gulped, “you guys go and enjoy. I need to go back home.” I forced a smile. 

I was already unable to forget that night and now that Wanda told me about what happened in the meeting, I am feeling even more uneasy. 

“Oh, come on, Van!” Wanda hooked her arm with mine. “You told us not to treat you as the CEO’s wife but see, since you have been married to him, you have cut yourself off from us,” she pouted as she complained. 

“It is not like that.” I tried to explain myself but she made a puppy face, which I couldn’t deny. “Fine!

When he is enjoying his life, I should also live the way I used to live before he came into my life.

Reggie and Wanda became so excited that they both packed up the things quickly and did my share of work as well. 

Reggie ordered a drink as soon as we reached the place where we had spent hours laughing and sharing our pain. 

The incident of my wedding night replayed in my head when Wanda passed a glass of wine towards me. I am not a person who gets well with the drink. 

“No thanks, Wanda. You know I don’t drink.” I cleared my throat. 

“Oh, come on, Van! Just one shot,” she insisted 

“Wanda, I am not sure what would do after having it so it is better if I stay stuck to my soft drink,” I clarified 

She wasn’t happy with my response but she took the glass for herself. Jasper gave me a glass of soft drink. He always brings it for me. He knows all about my likes and dislikes. 

The loud volume of music caught our attention. 

“Let’s dance,” Wanda proposed. 

“Umm…” Before I could protest, she held my wrist and dragged me to the dance floor. 

Wanda, Reggie, and Jasper made me stand in between them while they danced. I danced a little when Wanda forced me to. I suddenly felt a pair of eyes on me but when I looked around, I found everyone drunk and lost in their own world. 

Shaking off the feeling, I danced and enjoyed the moment. Wanda drank more than her capacity. 

After around one hour, when Wanda was going completely crazy, I thought it best to call it a day.

“I think we should now head back home.” 

“Yeah.” Reggie agreed with me. We walked out, and Wanda was continuously blabbering. 

“Jasper, could you please drop Vanessa home? I think I would have to take care of Wanda for the night.” 

“Yeah, sure,” Jasper replied. 

Wanda was still not ready to stop. She was demanding more drinks when Reggie took her away. forcefully. 

“Come,” Jasper said 

“I am fine, Jasper. I will go on my own. You must be tired. Go back home,” I said. 

“The route to the panthouse is quite dark. I can’t leave you alone,” he argued. “I would have done the same if there was someone else at your place.” 

He left no point of argument as he turned around, expecting me to follow him, which I did. I sat inside the car and buckled the seatbelt. The journey went silent. Not even a single word was exchanged between us when I was sure that there was a lot that Jasper wanted to say.
