Falling For My Cruel Mate novel Chapter 70

"Crowley, give me a hand and dig in the same spot the vomit was." Marcus takes a few steps back and allows the wolf to begin digging. Taking a few steps closer, I take a peek at the scene in front of me. The wind was blowing once more, lifting away some of the dirt and the repulsive smell that lingered around us.

Crowley takes a moment, his digging stopped abruptly, and begins sniffing vigorously.

"Did you find something?" Marcus asks.

The wolf digs his snout further into the hole before digging up a baby pink blouse, a blanket, and a few other garments of clothing. The scent was familiar, too familiar. It smelled like home, obviously mixed in with dirt and some vomit. But it mainly reminded me of home... which could only mean one thing.

"Siren." I whisper. I press my lips together as a somber feeling takes over my heart. It weighs heavy but I try to shake away the feeling. She betrayed me. She's run off with Jalex. She must've shifted here that night and vomited purposely on her clothes so no one would find them.

Marcus wears a blank expression as his eyes dull over. Mind link. He must be talking to my mate. Ajax's suspicions were true. Siren is working with Jalex, and there's probably a mole in the pack. Someone had to have helped her escaped the territory. But who would do such a thing?

"The Alpha is on his way. You can leave the items with us and return to your post on the border. Thank you for your help Crowley."

The wolf nods his large furry head at Marcus before bowing to me. He leaves rather quickly in the direction we came from.

If we don't figure out who the mole is soon, then we could all be in danger tomorrow. Theres no better time to strike than at a party where everyone is off guard and having fun. Maybe I could use that to try and convince Cipher to cancel it. I didn't even want that party in the first place.

I finally heave the sigh I was holding in. I can't even get one day of peace and quiet. Of course this had to happened. I trusted that girl with my life and she's ready to hand it over to a revengeful Alpha I don't even know. I just want to go home. My real home in the SnowMoon pack. I miss everyone there with my whole heart. I guess you never really know how good you've got it until its gone.

I move over to a nearby tree and take a seat near the trunk. I lean my back against the rough bark and look up at the red, orange and yellow leaves that remained attached to the branches. The majority of the trees around this one were completely naked and bare, ready for the winter snow to coat them. No one here is ready for winter. Along with snow it brings us a horrible fate. Jalex. Although I had faith in Ajax, I knew this battle would cost some of our people their lives.

Guilt overcame me. None of this is my fault, but I feel responsible. I wanted nothing more to clean up this mess and ensure the safety of this pack and everyone in it.

"Alpha." Marcus says causing me to shift my gaze over to him. Ajax approaches him in a small jog, shirtless and in a pair of jeans that hung low on his hips and also barefoot. I shake my head in disapproval as Marcus bows his head in respect.
