In the soft glow of the evening, Jonathan swung by the film set to pick up Estelle.
This time, instead of idling in the car, he made his way straight to the set.
From a distance, Blythe caught sight of a tall and handsome man approaching and immediately stood up, her gaze fixated on the newcomer, a flash of awe in her eyes.
As Jonathan drew closer, Blythe spoke up nervously, “Um, you’re here for Estelle, right?”
Jonathan nodded, “I tried calling her, but couldn't get through. Is she still here?”
Blythe promptly nodded again, “Yes, Estelle had to come back this afternoon for something. I’ll go fetch her for you.”
“In the front yard? No need, I’ll find her myself,” Jonathan replied, his voice calm, as he started walking further in.
Estelle’s makeshift office was located next to a rented villa on the set, partitioned off in a small courtyard that was cluttered with various items as the shoot was nearing its final stages.
After some searching, Jonathan finally located Estelle asleep under a banana tree.
A lounge chair was placed under the tree, with Estelle lying on her side, a design blueprint covering her face, seemingly in a deep sleep.
The setting sun filtered through the leaves of the tree, casting dappled shadows over her, and despite the hustle and bustle around, she appeared undisturbed.
A smile played on Jonathan’s face as he walked over and gently lifted the blueprint from her face.
With the paper removed, Estelle’s serene profile was revealed. Her eyes opened to the sight of the setting sun, and Jonathan standing above her.
Leaning on the armrest of the chair with one hand and gently caressing her chin with the other, Jonathan smiled affectionately, “So you weren't asleep after all, just lazing about?”
A smile slowly spread across Estelle’s lips as she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling herself closer. She nuzzled her forehead against his chin, a playful whine in her motion, “What brings you here?”
Jonathan planted a soft kiss on her cheek, “I missed you.”
“I missed you too,” Estelle responded, looking up at him with her clear, deep eyes.
Jonathan’s voice deepened, husky with emotion, “Let’s go home.”
“Yeah,” Estelle grinned, “let’s go home.”
At the time, she thought it was for the best, sparing her an additional worry.
But hearing Jonathan’s words now, the sense of loss crept back in.
Once at Emily’s place, Kya ran up to them first, “Estelle, Jonathan!”
Estelle lifted Kya into her arms, showing her the box in her hand, “Today we have caramel pudding and hazelnut cookies. Which one do you want first?”
Kya’s innocent smile revealed her tiny white teeth, “Both!”
“You’re getting greedier by the day!” Estelle laughed, placing her on the sofa and opening the box of sweets.
Charlie emerged from the kitchen, asking Jonathan, “What’ll you have to drink?”
“Just dinner for me tonight, no alcohol,” Jonathan replied coolly.
Charlie’s lips curled into a smirk, “Going dry for the baby-making, huh?”
