Estelle arched an eyebrow, “Your nemesis?”
“How could that be?” Lambert chuckled, giving Estelle a playful wink, “She’s my goddess!”
Estelle’s voice was flat, “Yesterday, you called that Julie and Laur goddesses too.”
Lambert laughed softly, “The goddesses on my lips and the goddess in my heart couldn’t be more different, could they?”
After saying this, he turned to look at Estelle, “Honestly, your eyes remind me so much of my goddess!”
The night before, when he first saw her eyes outside the bar, he was stunned for a moment, almost mistaking her for his goddess. Alas, his goddess was no longer of this world.
But it didn't matter. His goddess would live forever in his heart.
“Is that so?” Estelle replied.
“By the way, I still don’t know your name?” Lambert inquired.
“Estelle!”
Lambert nodded, “Lovely!”
Estelle asked, “Why did you ask me to come?”
Lambert’s smile was warm, “I’ve got a deal to close in Zion. Was supposed to be in three days, but a little hiccup moved things up. We’ll leave this afternoon. Need to pack anything?”
Estelle responded, “I’m ready anytime.”
Internally, she had been dreading how to spend the next three days with Lambert. Thankfully, it seemed fate had offered her some mercy.
“Great. We’ll head out after lunch, should make it by nightfall!” Lambert’s demeanor shifted back to casual when not discussing his goddess, “There's something I need to clarify beforehand. I’m bringing you as my personal bodyguard, but you’ll be known as my date. Your new name is Rella, my favorite flower. Got it?”
Estelle nodded and followed the servant downstairs.
The chapel was set towards the back of the estate. The servant prepared a golf cart and drove Estelle there.
Ten minutes later, they stopped outside the chapel. Towering pines and cypresses stood sentinel around it.
The chapel itself was a sight of opulence, with white marble steps leading up to it.
As Estelle ascended the marble steps, a priest came out to greet her and handed her a candle.
Estelle was taken aback.
Having a priest tend to the chapel and offer candles was something only Lambert would conceive, with his eccentric mindset.
Stepping into the chapel, as Estelle laid eyes on the memorial plaque at its center, she stood frozen. She was overwhelmed by a tumult of emotions that left her struggling to think clearly.
