Estelle had already confirmed her identity by the time she arrived, and now she spoke with a hint of detachment. "You should ask him!"
"Why aren't you attending the dinner party?" the girl demanded with a haughty air. "Are you too scared?"
Estelle's expression remained composed as she replied serenely, "I'm injured and can't drink. Go enjoy yourselves without me."
"What kind of injury?" Linda surveyed Estelle once more, her voice laced with scorn. "Are you playing the delicate flower, hoping to gain Lambert's pity so you can keep living in this mansion? Typical of a girl from C Country, always so cunning!"
Estelle frowned at her, unsure whether to find Linda's jealousy over Lambert laughable or pitiful.
After a moment's thought, she nodded. "Alright, I'll attend!"
Linda's eyes sparkled with triumph. "See you tonight, then. I'll be waiting for you at the dinner."
"Sure," Estelle agreed with a nod.
Linda spun on her heel and left with a spring in her step.
No sooner had she left than Jonathan walked in. "Someone looking for you?"
"Lambert's fiancée. She was asking why I wasn't going to her dinner party," Estelle chuckled. "I've agreed to go tonight."
"Really?" Jonathan's eyebrows furrowed slightly.
Estelle looked up at him. "She's hostile because she thinks I'm after Lambert. I need to clear my name. I have a husband!"
Jonathan offered her a spoonful of pudding. "What she thinks doesn't matter. Your health is more important."
Estelle took a mouthful of pudding. "I'll just stay a bit and then come back. I know my limits."
Jonathan didn't say more, contentedly feeding her the pudding spoon by spoon and watching her enjoy it. But what truly satisfied him was her declaration:
"I have a husband!"
The dinner party was set in the grand dining hall on the first floor of the mansion. The butler had it modestly decorated to create a festive atmosphere.
Sylvia traced her red lips. "It's completely different. Estelle is his sister, but I'm his subordinate."
Her tone was casual, acknowledging a simple fact without any emotional undertone.
"You're in J City now?" Josiah inquired.
"Yes," Sylvia replied with a soft smile. "I've started a modest PR firm."
"Absolutely, friends' rates," Sylvia replied, her laugh warm and inviting.
After the pleasantries, another guest arrived, turning heads. It was Linda, Lambert's soon-to-be fiancée.
Linda fully embraced her role as the hostess, dressed in a formal and grandiose gown of pale-grey tulle with an off-shoulder bodice featuring puff sleeves. The voluminous dress, adorned with sparkling diamonds, shimmered as she entered the room, casting a bright glow throughout the dining hall.
