Old Mr. Jarvis gently patted Estelle's hand, saying, "The year's come to an end, and it's about time you and Jonathan start planning your wedding. Don't worry about me; just focus on building a life with Jonathan!"
Estelle leaned her head on Old Mr. Jarvis's shoulder, "You don't need to worry about me. Just make sure to take good care of yourself."
"Don't worry, I plan to see you and Jonathan's kids grow up. Hopefully, you'll have a little girl as adorable as Kya," Old Mr. Jarvis said with a smile.
Estelle chuckled, "Jonathan is hoping for a daughter too."
"They're just so lovable!" Old Mr. Jarvis laughed. "Seeing them just brightens up your day and washes all your troubles away!"
"I'll let you babysit mine, then!"
"Now, that won't do. The Lamont family would be knocking on my door every day."
"They're mine, so I call the shots!"
"You say that now, but once you have your own, you won't want to part with them."
"If they're with you, there's nothing to part with!" Estelle replied, unconcerned.
Old Mr. Jarvis shook his head with a smile, "Then have a few more, leave them with me, and I'll take care of them."
"Deal!"
Their laughter and chatter added warmth and peace to the quiet yard, dissipating the earlier somber mood.
When Jonathan came looking for her, Old Mr. Jarvis said with a laugh, "Jonathan's getting impatient. You should head back and get some sleep. I'm off to bed myself."
Estelle nodded, "I'll come back on the 15th to celebrate the holiday with you."
"Come back if you can, but don't rush on my account!" Old Mr. Jarvis insisted. "I told you, you don't need to worry about me."
"Can't I want to come home for the holidays?" Estelle said with a playful tilt of her head.
As the holiday season ended, everyone quickly shook off their festive lethargy, adjusting their mindset to dive back into work mode.
However, first thing in the morning, it was apparent their boss hadn't shown up for work.
Sylvia was known for her diligence, often working later than her employees and never missing work without reason. She had never been late, especially not on the day after a holiday.
This was a first. On the very first day back, Sylvia was nowhere to be seen.
In hushed groups, the employees speculated on what might have happened or if there were going to be any changes in personnel.
At ten in the morning, Milanda stepped out of her office and announced, "The boss is tied up, but she's left the start-of-work gifts with each department head. They'll be distributed shortly, so everyone just focus on your tasks and keep working!"
Amy asked with concern, "Did anyone call the boss? Is everything alright?"
Milanda reassured her with a smile, "Everything's fine!"
