"Do you believe it or not, it doesn't change a thing. If you really loved me, well, your love arrived too late!" Sophia said with an indifferent tone, "I don't love you anymore!"
If it hadn't been for the mess with Diana, even upon realizing he didn't love her, she might have compromised herself in the relationship, hoping her efforts would shine through to him.
But after what happened on New Year's Eve, there was no going back for her and Robin.
She could initiate, she could endure hardships, but she wouldn't allow a speck of filth in her feelings.
"Not love?" Robin looked at her, bewildered and shocked.
"Yes, not anymore!" Sophia replied calmly.
Robin's face showed hurt. "When you confessed to me, telling me you've liked me since sophomore year, I believed you. After secretly admiring me for years, now, so shortly after we've broken up, you're telling me you don't love me anymore? I get it, I've wronged you, and you're angry and hurt, which I understand. But I can't grasp how you fell out of love so quickly?"
"Do you even know why I fell for you in the first place?" Sophia asked.
Robin nodded. "You told me it was because of how we interacted during that charity event. You fell for me then."
"Yes, because during that event, I saw you as humble yet confident, kind, ambitious, and talented." Sophia's smile carried a tinge of sorrow. "But later I found out it was all a facade, all your scheming and manipulation! Behind the scenes, the truth was so sordid and dark. The person I admired turned out to be a hypocrite!"
Robin stared at Sophia in surprise. "What do you mean? What did I pretend?"
"You don't have to pretend anymore. Over the holidays, I bumped into a college mate, and now I know everything about back then! That event wasn't solely your idea, you took credit for someone else's effort. And the money you 'donated' wasn't from your part-time job; it was bribe money from a sponsor, which you only returned when caught!" Sophia glared at Robin with anger. "I was deceived by you, as were the other students. Only I was the fool, idolizing you for so many years, treating you as a role model!"
Robin, shocked, his face turning red, exclaimed, "That's a slander!"
"I even heard the recording of you pleading for mercy, and you still dare to deny it?" Sophia grew even more infuriated, unable to comprehend how he could still lie so blatantly.
