Chapter 516
After a while, Emily saw that the shirt Charlie was wearing was soaked from her crying, making her feel even more embarrassed. She sniffled, then looked up and smiled, “I’m fine now, crying it out helped!”
Charlie glanced around and said, “you probably haven’t eaten yet, right? There’s a café up ahead, let’s go in and talk.”
Emily nodded, following Charlie into the café.
As the rain began to pour harder, Charlie took off his suit jacket and draped it over Emily’s head, protectively guiding her across the busy street and into the café on the other side.
Emily could smell his scent, and felt well-protected. The wind, rain, and bustling pedestrians all seemed irrelevant to her had to do was follow him.

all she
At a sudden moment, she was reminded of her father how he used to pick her up from primary school on his bike. How, when caught in the rain, he’d take off his own jacket and cover her head with it.
She’d sit on the back of his bike, her head covered by his large jacket – unable to see the road, but feeling incredibly warm and
secure
Quickly, the two entered the café. Charlie draped his jacket over his arm and led her by the wrist to a table.
A waiter approached, and Charlie ordered a coffee for himself, and a hot tea with some pastries for Emily
Emily headed to the restroom to clean her face. When she returned, the pastries had already arrived.
Charlie pushed the hot tea and cake in front of her, gently saying, “Eat something first, then tell me what happened. It’s okay, I’m here for you”
Emily was touched by his words. She wiped her tears and looked up. “Don’t be so good to me, or I’ll want to rely on you all the
time!”
Charlie raised his eyebrows, “And what’s wrong with relying on me?”
Emily replied, “Even if we’re friends, you don’t have to be responsible for me.”
Charlie chuckled, “How about my mom adopts you as her goddaughter? She’s always wanted a daughter, and you seem like a daughter material- I’m sure she’d love you to bits!”
Emily laughed, tears still glistening in her eyes, as if she’d heard an amusing joke.
Charlie sipped his coffee, turning to look at the heavy rain outside, appearing very at ease.
Emily slowly ate her cake, the sound of the pouring rain on the windows filling the air for a while.
When Emily finished eating, she told Charlie about what had happened at her brother’s house and that she had agreed to sign a letter of settlement and not pursue the matter further.
Charlie frowned, “Crystal’s pregnant?”
Emily nodded, “My brother said they went to do a check-up together a few days ago, and she’s definitely pregnant.”
