Chapter 1 Let’s Get A Divorce
It was a cool autumn night and the rain was pouring.
Evelyn Shelton stood in front of the gate of Hill Villa with no umbrella.
Her clothes were wet, but she didn’t seem to notice. She took off her coat and wrapped it around the gift in her arms.
Today was her first wedding anniversary with Jerry Graves. She was supposed to be at her parents‘ house today, but she had bought a gift for her husband without him knowing. It was a surprise.
When she finally walked to the door, her clothes were completely soaked.
As she was taking off her shoes, she noticed a pair of women’s high heels on the floor.
Evelyn knew very well that those were NOT her shoes.
It was like her heart had stopped beating. She gently put her things on the floor and slowly walked toward the master bedroom upstairs.
The closer she got, the clearer the conversation became.
It was Évelyn’s husband, Jerry, with another woman…
Even if she couldn’t see what was going on inside, she could imagine exactly what was going on just by listening to their sounds of pleasure.
“Who’s better, me or Evelyn?!”
The woman’s question made Evelyn’s stomach tighten. She wanted to vomit.
Then, she heard an answer that broke her heart. “Are you kidding me, I don’t even want to touch her!”
The worst part is, her husband wasn’t lying. Jerry has never touched her since they got married more than a year ago. The reason he said was that he had “performance issues“.
But now, her husband was making love to another woman.
The moment she entered the door, she couldn’t speak when she saw the person in bed with her husband: her best friend, Maura
Stella.
They had been close since high school. She had never thought that one day Maura would betray her like this… The two in bed obviously did not expect Evelyn to come home so soon. In just an instant, Jerry regained his composure. “Get out!”
…Get out?‘
Evelyn had never been a bad–tempered person, but now, she could no longer hold back her anger. She glanced at the uncooled kettle on the table out of the corner of her eye, picked it up, and poured water all over them. “You’re both disgusting!”
Maura screamed in panic, while Jerry immediately protected her in his arms!
“Evelyn, it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee. Jerry doesn’t want you.” Maura didn’t feel ashamed at all
“Huh,” Evelyn sneered. “Should I thank you then, Maura? I was your friend for years, and this is how you repay me?? Do you like stealing women’s husbands?!”
Jerry looked at her and said, “You should leave.”
“Don’t worry, I don’t plan on staying.” Evelyn felt sick just looking at them. “Jerry, you’ll explain this to your mother. I won’t hide your secrets anymore!”
They had been married for a year. So, when his mother asked her why they didn’t have a child, she hid his “performance issues“. And instead, she got the blame.
She felt so stupid.
Jerry didn’t even flinch at her threat. Years ago, Evelyn had thought there was no end to her love for him.
However, what she said next caught Jerry off guard.
“Let’s get a divorce.”
The car passed by a high–end club. When Evelyn looked at all the luxury cars at the front, she asked the driver to stop. After paying the bill and getting off, she went straight into the club.
Evelyn took a taxi and left Hill Villa as if she were escaping. She drove around aimlessly on the street; it seemed she had no other place to go.
“Miss? Where you going?” The driver glanced curiously at her in his rearview mirror.

At the bar, she ordered a vintage whiskey without caring about the high price..
It was so spicy that it burned her throat. Scenes of that year flashed through her mind, and now she felt like it was all a joke.
