Chapter 118 I’m Sure You Like Me
“I was indeed angry that you gave the video to Nora. From
my personal standpoint, you are my woman, but you are on
someone else’s side. You believe such a clumsy reason, not
because you are stupid, but because you have never doubted it at all. What I care about is your attitude. From my working standpoint, it is not good news for a lawsuit that you’re taking
away supplemental evidence.” Huston’s tone was very serious,
and every word he said seemed to be a slap in her face, but
there was no blame in his eyes. “Evelyn, I am not angry with
Nora, the Graves family, or your ex–husband. I am angry with
your attitude and choice.”
At that time, she had chosen the Graves family.
So, he was anxious, unhappy, and even a little depressed. If
she hadn’t drunk that glass of wine last night and helped him,
he might have continued to be angry with her.
Hearing his words, Evelyn was so embarrassed that she
couldn’t raise her head. If she didn’t know that Maura faked
her pregnancy, she might still be able to confidently say that
she was doing this for the unborn child. But now she had
fallen into the Graves family’s trap like a joke.
So what if they had lived together for more than a year? The
Graves family was far more shameless and despic
she had imagined. They were not worthy of sympathy and
trust.
Huston was right. It was her credulity that had caused the series of problems that followed.
She felt as if her head weighed a thousand pounds. She closed her eyes and felt a little depressed. The man pinched her chin and raised it, saying, “You knew that someone drugged me last night, but you still chose to drink that glass of wine. Why?”
Now it was time to deal with the matter of the two of them.
There was a flash of panic in Evelyn’s eyes. She was so nervous that she stammered, “I, I was just worried. There was nothing I could do.”
“What else?” asked Huston.
What else?
Evelyn was flustered by his question. A dangerous answer was running through her mind. She didn’t say anything, and he didn’t urge her. After pondering for a moment, she suppressed the throbbing in her heart and said, “Nothing more. If it were anyone else, I might have done the same thing.”
When she said this, she
sly depressed.
He narrowed his eyes and looked at her face. He said with
absolute certainty, “If it were anyone else, you wouldn’t have
done this.“”
After being seen through, she asked stubbornly, “How did you
know?”
What she didn’t know was that her expression had betrayed
everything.
He caressed the side of her face with his fingers and said,
“Because you blush whenever you lie.”
Evelyn was speechless. She felt that not only was she blushing, but she was also burning!
