Chapter 139 Inexplicable Hostility
A month and a half after the incident of Evelyn’s falling from the building, the police announced the investigation result. Eva, who had been suspended for some time, finally resigned from her position. While the result was expected, it also came as a bit of a surprise.
In fact, in the beginning, not many people thought that Eva would really be fired. But as time went by, everyone had different opinions.
On the day of her resignation, Eva came to the company to take her personal belongings and complete the work handover with Flora. Evelyn and Ada returned to the office after lunch. Most of the employees didn’t come back yet. As soon as they entered the door, they saw Eva walking out with a cardboard box in her
arms.
They bumped into each other, so they couldn’t pretend that they didn’t see each other. It was said that one couldn’t avoid one’s
enemy.
Eva was stunned when she saw Evelyn, but a mocking smile soon appeared on her face, and it looked unpleasant. She said, “Evelyn, I didn’t expect you to drive me away.”
Evelyn’s expression remained unchanged, and she was no longer as afraid of Eva as before. She replied, “Since you’ve resigned, I won’t call you the manager. Eva, you left the company not
because of me, but because you didn’t handle the lawsuit well. I was implicated in this matter. You don’t feel guilty, but you even blame me. Didn’t you read the statement from the company?”
It seemed that Eva was caught off guard by Evelyn’s retort. She was stunned for a moment and then laughed weirdly. “You certainly have a way with words, but you’re quite a hypocrite. Even if I didn’t handle the lawsuit well, I wouldn’t be fired. You just took advantage of your connections to cause trouble for me. But mark my words, sooner or later, you’ll have to face the consequences!”
When Evelyn met Eva’s vicious gaze, she remained calm. Ever since she joined the company, Eva had shown an inexplicable hostility towards her. Until now, Eva was still the same.
Evelyn muttered in her heart, “Why did Eva not reflect on herself?”
Evelyn wasn’t in the mood to argue with Eva. She knew that no matter how much they argued, they wouldn’t come to a resolution. So, she simply stepped aside and made way for Eva. “There’s no point in continuing this discussion if we have opposing views,” Evelyn stated, “You’re free to leave now.”
As they passed each other, Eva deliberately bumped Evelyn’s shoulder. The force was so strong that Evelyn almost fell. With assistance from Ada, Evelyn managed to regain her balance.
Looking at Eva’s coquettish back as Eva walked away, Ada waved her fist and said, “Crazy woman…”
This scene was captured on the surveillance camera and transmitted to the computer in the president’s office in real time. When Huston saw that Evelyn had been bumped and took two steps back, his eyes turned cold. He picked up the telephone on the table and called Sam. “Send two security guards to block Eva’s way.”
“Block her way?” Sam was a little confused. Before he could ask the reason, he heard Huston’s displeased voice. Huston said, “Do you need me to teach you?”
With a snap, the phone was hung up. Sam thought of Huston’s order helplessly and gave the order when he figured it out.
Eva got out of the elevator and walked out with the cardboard box in her arms. Unexpectedly, as soon as she walked out of the company’s gate, she tripped over something before she could get in the car. All the things in her arms were scattered on the ground. She fell and almost had a nip slip.
She turned around and glared at the security guard at the door, scolding, “Are you blind?”
The security guard looked serious, but he didn’t apologize seriously, “I’m sorry.”
