Chapter 167 Where Are You
Unable to find Huston, Matt could only ask someone to suppress the popularity of the news, but this was far from enough. The media was bound to get an accurate reply.
Evelyn had to be very careful when she went to work for fear of bumping into reporters.
Evelyn was not in the mood for lunch, so she took a bite of bread and dozed off on the table. She had been very nervous these two days, so she couldn’t sleep well at night. Suddenly, she felt a weight on her shoulder. She turned around and saw Ada.
Ada held a coat in her hand and had just put it on Evelyn.
Seeing that she had woken up, a trace of embarrassment flashed across Ada’s face. “I think you’re wearing thin clothes.”
“Thank you.”
After a moment of silence, Ada pulled out the chair next to her and sat down. Everyone in the office had gone to eat. She glanced at the half–eaten bread on the table and felt upset. “Evelyn, I asked this question because I regarded you as a friend. Are you really like what the news says?”
Looking into her eyes, Evelyn didn’t suspect or inquire about anything. She just looked at her worriedly.
Evelyn lowered her eyes slightly and did not know how to answer. In the end, she could only say dryly, “It’s not what you think.”
Jerry’s report was very detailed. It was really not easy to find the loopholes in it. Evelyn couldn’t even figure out how to explain it.
“Are you really with President Lloyd?”
After a moment of silence, Evelyn finally agreed. “Yes, but he’s not here now. I hope you won’t tell anyone.”
Ada breathed a sigh of relief. If she was willing to tell her, it would prove that she regarded her as a friend in her heart, then her previous efforts would not be in vain.
Ada patted her on the shoulder and said, “I’m sorry. When the news first came out, I was also stunned. After all, I really didn’t expect you to tell President Lloyd. But since you said it’s not like that, I believe you.”
She suddenly looked up at her. “Ada.”
Ada smiled faintly. “I believe in your character. No matter what others say, I know you won’t do that.”
Ada pointed at the bread on the table and asked, “Are you going to eat this?”
“Yes, I don’t have an appetite.”
“Don’t do that. There’s still food in the canteen now. Would you
like to go and get some?” As she spoke, Ada got up and wanted to take her to the canteen.
