Chapter 280 Can You Give Me Some Time?
Of course, Evelyn was willing to believe him. If she didn’t believe him, she wouldn’t have done this. Even if he didn’t come home at night, she didn’t ask. She knew he was busy and afraid of adding other burdens.
But now, he didn’t explain anything. How could she continue
to believe him?
As if Huston could read her mind, he said in a deep voice, “It’s not that I don’t want to tell you, but I haven’t figured out how
to tell you yet.”
Evelyn took a deep breath and said in a trembling voice, “Just
tell me the truth.”
Huston took a sharp drag from his cigarette, and whether it was due to the smoke or not, he suddenly started coughing. Hearing this, Evelyn’s heart tightened. Seeing him in
discomfort with a furrowed brow, she acted impulsively, her thoughts quick and decisive. She snatched the cigarette from his hand and stubbed it, saying, “If you’re feeling unwell, don’t smoke. Can’t you just answer my questions? Is it really that
difficult?”
“It’s not difficult,” Huston answered quickly, and his eyes fell on a place ahead without looking at her. “I just don’t want you to worry too much.”
“But I’m overthinking it now.” Evelyn still didn’t understand why he was hiding it. “Do you treat me as your girlfriend?”
Hearing this, Huston finally turned his head and looked at her. His burning gaze landed on her face. “For me, you’re more
important than a girlfriend.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me? Is there anything I can’t know?” Evelyn didn’t want to force him or be aggressive, but now it was really difficult for her to control the speculation and
doubts in her heart.
If he didn’t say it out at that time, he might never have had a chance to speak.
Even though she didn’t know how serious the matter was, at the very least, it was not simple to put him in such a difficult
position.
Huston’s handsome face was half illuminated and half in the
shadow under the dim light. He said, “Evelyn, can you give me some time, please? Once I handle everything, I will definitely tell you.”
Evelyn opened her mouth and closed it again, feeling indescribably disappointed. “How much time do you need?”
“I don’t know.” After that, Huston seemed to find it ridiculous
and snorted. “I will do it as soon as possible.”
There was a brief silence in the car, and Evelyn didn’t even know how to respond to him. She really wanted him to explain everything right now, but looking at the gloomy expression on his face, she couldn’t bring herself to say those demanding
words.
After a long silence, Evelyn tightened her grip on the chair beside her. She did it over and over again, and the hesitation
in her heart was even stronger.
In the end, she compromised.
“Okay, since it’s so hard to say, I won’t force you. Tell me what you want to say on the day.” She said it casually, but her real thoughts were not like this, even heavy.
When Huston saw that the clarity in her eyes had been replaced by distrust, he could not find any words to explain it.
He nodded lightly and said, “That’s great.”
The conversation ended on bad terms. Huston’s reservation
was a kind of indirect harm to Evelyn. Until the next day, her
mood was not very good.
