Chapter 31 Parents’ Oppression I
When Evelyn walked out of HM Law Office, she was still cursing. Although Iuston had arranged a driver for her this time, it was all because of what he had done to her just now.
As she massaged her shoulders, she cursed in her heart, “When I go to work in the future, I must stay away from him. Otherwise, I may be taken away by him at any time and do something shameful. Then I won’t be able to work hard.”
“Miss Shelton, are you going straight back to Royal Villa?” the driver asked kindly.
She thought for a moment and said, “Let’s go to Hub Apartment.”
She remembered that she hadn’t visited her parents for a long time. And recently, she knew that Jerry had cheated on her. It was time for her to go back and visit her parents.
Half an hour later, the car stopped at the gate of Hub Apartment. She got out of the car and went upstairs with some health supplements bought from the store on the way. There was no elevator in the old-fashioned community, so she went up to the fourth floor alone with a pile of things.
It was Lucy who opened the door. When she saw Evelyn carrying several bags, she immediately took them and said, “Why didn’t you call your father and me when you arrived? We can go downstairs to help you.”
“Come in quickly.”
The mother and daughter entered the house, which was a small house with two bedrooms and a living room. Ben Shelton was practicing calligraphy with the pen on the table in the dining room. This was a habit he had developed over the years and he could not give up.
“Dad.” She walked over and greeted him intimately.
Ever since Evelyn was a child, Ben had been very kind to her. When it came to education, he had always played good cop, while Lucy had played bad cop. And he had pampered her very much. Even when Evelyn got married, he still treated her like a child every time she came back.
But this time, Ben was different. He responded angrily, “You still remember to come back.”
Evelyn was confused. Lucy tried to smooth things over. “That’s enough. She’s back. Why are you still angry?”
“What do you think I’m angry about? The Graves family has called us to complain. I’m ashamed!” As he spoke, Ben put down the pen in his hand heavily.
When Evelyn heard that there was something fishy going on, her heart tightened. “Dad, did Jerry look for you?”
Hearing this, Lucy sighed and pulled Evelyn aside. “It was not Jerry. It was Nora.”
Evelyn frowned. “Why is she looking for my dad?”
Lucy looked at her daughter with some hesitation. In the end, she still told Evelyn the whole story. “Evelyn, have you not been home recently?”
…”
Evelyn had thought that Jerry might use this to threaten her, but she didn’t expect him to be so shameless as to bring it up with her parents.
Seeing that she didn’t speak, Ben thought that she had tacitly approved. The anger in his heart grew even stronger. “Evelyn, you’re married. No matter what the problem is, you can’t not go home. Do you know how many people will gossip about you if you do this?”
Evelyn was annoyed. “What do you mean by that?”
She thought to herself, “It should be that scumbag, Jerry, who should be gossiped.”
“You’re a woman. If you don’t go home, don’t you know what will others gossip about? Nora came to me and said that you were fooling around with someone outside. Your mother and I didn’t even know how to retort!”
The couple wanted to hide it from her, thinking that the younger generation would solve their problems by themselves. But as soon as Evelyn came here today, Ben couldn’t hold back his anger. It was too late for Nora to stop him.
