Chapter 444 When Will It End?
Evelyn soon realized what it was because…
“Kevin, this is the office. What are you doing…” The woman’s voice, filled with annoyance and a hint of coquetry, came through the door.
“What do you think I’m doing?” The man’s voice was low and slightly breathless, inevitably leading to various thoughts.
Both voices were familiar to Evelyn. Two faces flashed through her mind as she heard their voices: Kevin and Mabel.
But… why were they together?
Although Mabel had often accompanied Kevin before, Evelyn didn’t expect their relationship to be like this.
She hesitated for a moment and didn’t want to eavesdrop any longer. Just as she was about to turn around and leave, the door suddenly opened.
Mabel ran out with a red face. When she saw Evelyn standing at the door, she was very surprised. “Evelyn?”
They looked at each other, and after a while, Kevin came out.
The three of them stood face to face. It was Evelyn who came to her senses first. She waved the receipt in her hand and
said, “I’m here to ask Doctor Lane about the hospitalization fee.”
After that, she looked at them awkwardly and said, “I’m sorry to disturb you.”
“It’s okay.” replied Mabel, but she cursed Kevin in her mind, “It’s all because of this shameless man, insisting on fooling around in the office. Now we’ve become a spectacle.” Unable to bear the strange atmosphere, she decided to go. “You go ahead. I’ll leave.”
Evelyn nodded at her, knowing she probably was a little embarrassed, and she didn’t say anything more.
Kevin stared intently at Mabel’s hurried figure until she completely disappeared from sight. Only then did he retract his gaze, and for the first time, a teasing expression appeared on his otherwise calm face.
Evelyn always thought Kevin was the most composed and unassuming of Huston’s friends. She never expected him to
have such a wild side. He had never shown it before.
Kevin leaned to the side to make room for her and said,
“Come in and let’s talk.”
Evelyn entered the office and placed the bill on the table. “Doctor Lane, I just went to pay the bill and was told that all the expenses on my side have been transferred to Huston. I want to trouble you to separate the expenses. I’ll pay for my father’s portion myself.”
Kevin was already mentally prepared, and he wouldn’t agree. He comforted her in a gentle voice, “You don’t have to worry about the cost. I’m Huston’s friend. Not only for you but for all my friends, I won’t charge excessively high fees. At most, it will be just material costs and surgical fees. It’s not a large sum, so please don’t worry about it.”
“I know.” Evelyn sat up straighter as if this would make her more confident. “I mean, no matter how much it costs, I’ll pay for it myself.”
