Chapter 526 Returning to Aronland
Bert stood rooted to the spot, unable to move.
He felt like an invisible web had completely enveloped him as if his blood had frozen in his bones and his entire being was bound. This was the first time he had experienced such an intense sensation.
His heartbeat was a little fast, and her mind was drifting like never before.
Bert closed his eyes and raised his left hand to press between his eyebrows. His temples throbbed, reminding him how excited he was because of this sentence.
Evelyn waited quietly. This question was very important to her. She needed to know the attitude of Bert.
“I wouldn’t say I like you, but I do appreciate you,” Bert gave her a thoughtful response. “Why? Are you interested in me?”
Evelyn quietly breathed a sigh of relief. “You think too much. I don’t even have a good impression of you.”
“It’s not too late to talk about this when you escape prison.” Bert stopped talking to her. “I’m hanging up.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the phone was hung up. Hearing the busy tone, Evelyn slowly put down the phone,
turned around, opened the door, and left the room.
“Are you done?” The prison guard waited at the door.
Evelyn nodded. “Yes.”
The two of them walked back together. On the way, the prison guard asked her casually, “Who’s calling?”
Evelyn frowned and tried her best to suppress the panic in her heart. “My parents.”
“Oh.”
Fortunately, the prison guard only responded indifferently and did not overthink it.
As Evelyn walked along the corridor toward her cell, she passed by several communal cells. The number of people inside varied; some contained only seven or eight individuals, while others held more than a dozen. Each room was filled with people who had a fierce expression on their faces. As she passed the rooms, she didn’t dare to make eye contact with them, fearing it might cause trouble.
Although no one explicitly said it, Evelyn could sense the dissatisfaction from other inmates towards her as the “newcomer.” They resented her privilege of having a separate cell and eating alone. They had harbored grievances for a long time but simply hadn’t found the opportunity to confront her
yet.
When Evelyn returned to her room, she was completely relaxed. She raised her hand and touched her lower abdomen. Her belly should not have changed much in a month. Even if it was not for herself, she had to cherish her life for the child’s sake.
On the other side, Mia was extremely excited when she learned that Evelyn’s lawsuit was unsuccessful. For so many years, she had never been as happy as she was now since she fell ill.
“Bitch, you want to fight with me? You are destined to be sent to prison by me!”
Mia smugly thought to herself, and the feeling of completely possessing Huston once again filled her mind.
She kept fantasizing about the future and the scene of Huston being with her…
At the same time, her physical condition was also improving. Despite George’s constant reminders to be careful, her basic vital signs were normal, and as long as there was light, she could move around in the hospital.
Just as Mia was scheming to meet Huston, a piece of devastating news arrived.
Kevin walked into the ward with George. They held a long folder and said something until they stood in front of her bed.
