Huston completely disregarded himself.
Nothing in the company, family, body, or anything else occupied the man's mind. The only thing he wanted to do was to find Evelyn.
At first, Huston stayed at the scene of the accident all day. Later, he preferred to go at night. He was afraid that his Evelyn would be scared there alone, and he would not be able to hold on to the memories that came every night.
It was too painful.
On every quiet night, he even had hallucinations. Several times, he saw Evelyn standing at home in front of him. He had dreamed that she had told him that she would never forgive him for the rest of her life.
Those scenes were clearly fake. They were all his imagination, but they were like a big net that wrapped him tightly, making it hard for him to breathe.
This man, who didn't like to talk, was even more silent. Huston didn't like to speak or communicate with others. Every day, he lived like a dead man.
Huston was like a walking corpse, but he was not. Because his heart was torn apart all the time, the pain reminded him that everything was not over yet, and it was going on sadly every day.
Huston wanted to die, but he was afraid that one day Evelyn would suddenly appear and couldn't find him. He wanted to live like this. He thought that if he died, he wouldn't feel pain or guilt. He didn't deserve to die. He wanted to live as if he was torturing himself. He had to atone for his sins.
