Chapter 708 I Never Give Up on You and Mom
Lucas thought to himself, “If he liked me, why didn’t he pay a visit to me?” “If you like someone, shouldn’t you and your child be together like other kids and their dads?”
He really wanted to know.
Huston listened to the innocent and aggrieved tone in Lucas’s voice, his heart feeling as if it was being squeezed tightly. He held Lucas’s hand a little. tighter and a glimmer of warmth shimmered in his eyes, “I didn’t choose not to find you. I didn’t know where you and Mom were. If I had known, I would have come to you.”
At this point, there was no need for excuses or evasions. He didn’t need to dwell on the past conflicts and grudges, but Lucas had to understand that he loved him, deeply and truly.
Furrowing his brows, Lucas gently asked, “Why didn’t you know? Other kids have been with their parents since birth.”
zed Huston’s heart with a sour
ache as if he had just bitten into a lemon. He sighed silently, trying to explain it as simply as possible, “When your mom was pregnant with you, I didn’t know. Later, there was an accident, and she took you to Eoland. I had no idea. I thought you both were no longer in this world. I never expected that you would be living in Eoland.”
Lucas listened intently, his expression serious and his little face solemn, “So, you didn’t even know you had a son?”
“Yeah,” Huston smiled with relief and sadness, “I have no idea.”
This time, Lucas fell silent.
His impression of his father had always been a blank slate, and now, suddenly, it started to take shape. After hearing the reasons, Lucas felt a sense of bewilderment.
He could somewhat understand why Huston hadn’t been there all along, but he couldn’t comprehend
ly he was the only one like this. Why other kids weren’t?
He wasn’t comparing himself to others; he just didn’t understand.
“It’s something between Mom and Dad, you don’t need to understand. You just need to know that I have never given up on you and Mom, and I have never thought about abandoning you,” Huston said, his voice soft and tender. He displayed all the tenderness he had for Lucas.
Huston looked at Lucas’s eyes carefully, their hearts connected, resonating with each other’s emotion.
Huston swallowed nervously, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down. He mustered the courage to say the title that had been swirling in his mind for so long. “Daddy loves you both very much, and you should never doubt that.”
As Lucas listened, his nose suddenly tingled with a hint of sadness. He tried to hold back his tears but ultimately failed. Tears streamed down his face, drop by drop.
