Chapter 71
How Can I Cooperate
Evelyn’s hands, which were hanging by her side, tightened a little, and she was tense. “Hello, Mr. Grand.”
Charlie cast an inquiring look at him, and he became a little serious. “It seems that Mr. Grand and my assistant are old acquaintances?”
Nick Grand pretended to laugh and waved his hand. “Not really. I met her a few times when she was in college, but…”
Speaking of this, Nick hesitated and looked at Evelyn meaningfully.
She didn’t know what he meant, so she simply said, “It was just not a good memory.””
Nick’s expression changed slightly, but there was still a fake smile on his face. “Yes, it’s all in the past.”
The atmosphere in the private room became a little tricky because of this inexplicable conversation. Charlie, a lawyer with a sharp sense, felt that this topic was unfriendly and
motioned for Nick to sit down. “Since you know each other, I
please sit down.”
Charlie and Nick quickly cut to the chase, and Evelyn sat by Charlie’s side. Just as he’d said, there was utterly no need to say anything, and she would help him record some of the details and conditions Nick spoke of from time to time.
As the legal representative of the M&F Group, Nick demanded further compensation from Mr. Lee. He asked Charlie to come out to see if they could make a concession and reconcile to the greatest extent.
“Mr. Athena, you know that although Mr. Lee has worked in M&F Group for half of his life, he is just an investigator, not a management officer. Of course, you may think that I am ruthless, but in the current economic society, everything has to consider the value of benefits. He wants compensation of more than one million dollars. It’s possible if we sit down and talk, but now that things have come to this point, it’s not easy for the group to do it.” Nick made some tea while speaking, with a slight smile on his slightly swollen face, as if he was talking about a very easy thing.
Thinking of Mr. Lee’s broken finger, she couldn’t keep a polite
smile on her face.
Mr. Lee’s whole life was likely to be ruined at this time. It
sounded like a trivial thing in his tone.
Evelyn couldn’t help but feel a little indignant. On the other hand, Charlie didn’t have any reaction. He just listened indifferently to him before slowly saying, “Mr. Grand,
I understand what you mean. The group has its own standpoint, but…”
Charlie took a sip of tea and put down the cup. “You should know very well if the money is reasonable or not.”
Behind Nick Grand’s glasses, his small eyes narrowed slightly. Pretending to be confused, he asked Charlie, “What do you mean, Mr. Athena?”
