"What's a mother?"
Seeing Peter's innocent and ignorant look, Charlotte felt a pang in her heart.
She gently stroked Peter's head and said, "A mother is someone who will love you unconditionally, just like your master."
"Really?" Peter asked softly. "But... can I see my master again?"
Charlotte fell silent for a moment. "Yes, you will. Someday, you'll meet him in another world."
After helping Peter pack his things, Charlotte held his small hand and walked to the temple's entrance.
"You probably won't be coming back here for a long time, so say your farewells to this place," Charlotte whispered to Peter.
Peter walked quietly to the courtyard gate, carefully taking in every inch of the surroundings. Then, he devoutly chanted, "Amitabha."
As he stepped out of the courtyard gate, Peter burst into tears.
The child's sorrowful cries echoed through the mountains as if bidding a final farewell to the temple with his heart-wrenching sobs.
Because Peter was found in the mountains by his master and had never obtained any identification, he remained undocumented to this day.
Charlotte had no choice but to take him to the nearest police station to report his situation, asking for help to reissue identification documents like his ID card.
However, the police needed to verify the details, and it would take at least a month before any official documents could be obtained. During this time, Charlotte decided to take him back to the villa to live.
To the surprise of Ben and Anna, their parents had only been gone for two days, and yet they returned with a child.
