"You're out of your mind. Be careful, or the boss might catch wind of that," his colleague murmured, giving him a nudge with his elbow.
Even though Flora had her fair share of flaws and didn't seem like a match for the boss, the fact that the boss had stayed in Austenberg for a decade because of her spoke volumes about his feelings.
If word got back to the boss that they were bad-mouthing Flora, there'd be hell to pay. The man pursed his lips and fell silent.
"The boss is coming!" someone suddenly shouted with excitement.
The senior executives glanced up.
A man and a woman strolled in. The man, tall and composed, wore a black windbreaker, giving off a cool vibe that kept people at arm's length. The woman, in a matching coat and skinny jeans, wore no makeup, yet her fair skin was strikingly captivating.
They were quite the dazzling pair!
The executives were momentarily dumbfounded, only snapping back to reality once Flora and Connor entered the hall. They quickly knelt, calling out in unison, "Welcome back, boss!"
Connor held Flora's hand, guiding her up the steps to a chair perched atop five steps. He helped Flora sit first, then seated himself beside her. His gaze swept over the crowd below, his tone calm yet commanding.
"There's someone by my side you should acknowledge as 'the lady.'"
His words hinted at displeasure over their oversight of Flora.
The executives exchanged glances, then collectively said, "Greetings, lady."
"Stand up," Connor finally instructed.
The executives rose, looking up at Connor as if he were a deity. When their eyes landed on Flora, their expressions grew complicated.
They had to admit, Flora's presence was striking from the get-go, different from what they had imagined—her aura could indeed match the boss's.
