For a moment, she was at a loss for words. It was hard to believe that such things were happening in our high-tech world today. Was there anything left that seemed impossible?
She eased back onto the swing, letting it sway gently as her legs dangled. "The Reynolds family really is full of surprises," she mused.
Words escaped her, and she wasn't sure how to put her thoughts into words.
Then, something clicked.
"So, did you all...?" she trailed off, unsure.
"Jules cut his hand so we could get away from the Reynolds family," Yvenne explained, her voice quivering like a frightened deer. "Fiona, I'm sorry. I didn't want to be at odds with you at the Reynolds family, but if I hadn't gone along with it, they might've killed me."
As she spoke, she rolled up her sleeve, revealing fresh whip marks, evidence of a recent ordeal.
"I had to do what they wanted, Fiona. Please don't be mad at me."
Fiona glanced at Tyler, her expression unyielding despite Yvenne's pleading tone. With a light chuckle, she said, "This isn't enough to make me mad."
"If you could leave that way, why didn’t you head back to school sooner?" Fiona asked.
"We had to wait for the full moon at midnight."
Fiona rolled her eyes. The Reynolds family was certainly peculiar, needing such precise timing for their plans.
"We've broken free from the Reynolds family now, and even Yvenne has cut ties with them. She doesn't have anywhere else to go, so she'll be staying with me and going to Westbrook High School. After all, she's still quite young."
