The whole room was stunned.
No one saw this coming. It was blatant favoritism!
"Instructor..." Jillian's smile froze, and she couldn't help but speak up again, not ready to accept what was happening.
Connor didn’t even glance her way. He walked straight to Flora and gently placed his hand on her head.
"Don't be upset, okay?"
"Okay, I'm not upset anymore." Flora managed a smile. Just seeing Connor brightened her mood considerably.
Their tone was affectionate, their demeanor intimate; their relationship was clearly more than just professional.
Everyone was staring at them, a daring thought forming in their minds.
"Flora is my fiancée, and we will get married as soon as she's of legal age. There's been too much gossip around the base lately, and I don't want to hear another word of it. Otherwise, you'll be out of here just like the others."
Connor wrapped an arm around Flora's shoulders, his deep gaze sweeping over the crowd. His voice was husky, not loud but clear enough for everyone to hear.
Flora was his fiancée?!
The crowd was shocked!
Now they understood why the instructors had been acting so strangely around Flora. It was because she was the chief instructor's fiancée!
Of course, they would protect and respect her.
Even after Connor and Flora walked away, everyone was still in a daze.
Whispers filled the air.
"We all misunderstood Flora. She and the instructors are innocent; we were the ones overthinking."
"Flora and the chief instructor make such a perfect couple. A match made in heaven!"
"At eighteen or nineteen, she's already engaged, and here I am, still single!"
That evening.
Flora lay in bed, resting with her eyes closed. Tonight, it was Eilies' turn to be on guard duty.
"Flora, could you grab the shampoo for me?" Cynthia's voice came from the bathroom.
"Sure." Flora replied, getting up from her bed.
From the lower bunk, Jillian's eyes flickered.
Navigating the old-style bunk beds required stepping on narrow metal rungs. Just as Flora stepped on the first rung and was about to step on the second, her foot slipped.
She was about to fall to the ground!
Jillian clenched her hand.
But Flora performed a nimble backflip, landing steadily on the ground. She first handed the shampoo to Cynthia, then stood under the bunk bed, reaching out to feel the thin metal rung.
