Maddox had hit the buzzer too late five times and once too early, losing a chance to answer. Ivan and Brianna messed up a question, costing them a point.
Meanwhile, the Imperial Aerospace team was on fire, now leading the University of Maple Grove by six points.
Out of the hundred questions, only twenty remained, and Maple Grove needed to nail at least 80% of them to win.
Answering correctly wasn't the issue for Brianna and Ivan; it was about beating the Imperial Aerospace team to the buzzer. Their rivals were lightning-fast.
The crowd shook their heads, sensing the impending defeat for Maple Grove.
Maddox felt the pressure; his hand shook on the buzzer, and his legs felt like jelly.
"Excuse me."
A voice beside him made Maddox turn his head just as the quizmaster finished reading the next question.
"...Start answering now!"
Distracted, Maddox hesitated. Just as he was about to lose hope, Flora, standing next to him, swiftly hit the buzzer.
"Congratulations to the University of Maple Grove!"
"Option C," Brianna answered quickly.
"Correct! Next question, please—"
"Flora, you…"
Maddox stared at Flora, stunned. Her speed was unreal, almost a blur. He hadn't even seen her move.
"Step aside," Flora said coolly.
Maddox instinctively moved, operating on autopilot.
Flora gripped the buzzer with one hand and propped her chin with the other, her eyelids drooping casually. Yet, every time the quizmaster finished a question, she was the first to buzz in.
"Let's congratulate the University of Maple Grove once again!"
