Flora tiptoed into the kitchen, clutching her phone and whispered to Connor, "Connor, Kruz just called. Aunt Mary invited us over to the Falcone’s for dinner."
"Got it," Connor replied.
After wiping his hands on his apron, Connor took the phone.
"Be nice, okay?" Flora guessed Amanda might be listening in too, so she nudged Connor to soften his tone a bit.
Connor, bless him, just wasn't the best with words. He might feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but it usually came out as cold and distant.
"Alright," he nodded gently, his usual tenderness showing as he looked at Flora.
Connor stepped out onto the balcony to continue the call. Less than two minutes later, he was back, casually placing the phone on the coffee table. "Kruz said they're coming over for dinner."
That meant Amanda and Ethan would be joining.
Connor called Moss and Beck inside, asking them to grab more groceries. With Kruz and the others coming, the food he had planned wouldn’t be enough.
Moss and Beck were pleasantly surprised. The boss inviting the lady and her family over for dinner? That was a big deal!
...
At the Falcone residence, Amanda hung up the phone, almost in disbelief.
Connor had simply said he’d already prepared dinner at their place and wouldn’t be joining them, but they were welcome to come over if they wanted.
This was the first time Connor had ever invited her over...
Was it because she had spoken up for Flora at the race?
"Hey, mom, you daydreaming?" Kruz waved a hand in front of Amanda’s face. "So, are you going or not? If you’re not, I’ll head over myself."
"If you’re going, why shouldn’t I?" Amanda shot back.
