Flora was always so thoughtful. She didn’t really believe a sachet of herbs could do much, but since it was from Flora, she cherished it. She had already warmed up to Flora and wanted to show her kindness in return. Feeling a bit awkward, she realized she should’ve given Flora a welcome gift as the elder. She thought of giving Flora her bracelet, a family heirloom her mother gave her on her wedding day, but then hesitated. She considered herself unlucky, having made poor choices in her youth and becoming a widow in her middle age. Flora seemed to have good fortune; giving her the bracelet might not be right.
They chatted for a while, and soon it was time to think about dinner. “Flora, what do you fancy? I’ll have the housekeeper whip something up.” It was already past three, so it was time to start dinner prep.
“No need,” Connor suddenly said. Amanda’s smile faltered a bit. What did he mean, no need? Was he not staying?
“I’ll cook myself,” Connor announced, pulling Amanda from her thoughts. “Flora loves what I make.” Amanda couldn’t help but chuckle at her son’s devotion. He was completely under Flora’s spell. She didn’t mind, though. A man doting on his wife was sweet, and she’d get to taste his cooking too.
Once Connor headed to the kitchen, Ethan, who was bursting with excitement, quickly tugged Flora upstairs. “Flora, come to my room,” he said with a mysterious tone. Once the door was shut, Ethan’s eyes were locked onto Flora, a mix of excitement and complexity swirling in them.
“What’s up?” Flora asked, leaning casually against the door.
“Flora…” Ethan’s voice came out hoarse, “Who are you really?”
