The advisor was just about to mention that Flora had already graduated and was now an honorary professor at the medical school, but Blake cut her off: "So what? Flora's main role is being a student! She should be attending classes! I've checked, and her attendance is ridiculously low!"
"That's because—"
From the moment Flora joined the University of Maple Grove, she got special permission to skip classes to work in the medical lab. The university leaders approved it.
Plus, she's now a world champion and an honorary professor!
Remembering what Mr. Garcia had said was enough to make the advisor a bit frustrated. Flora was just a freshman, and she was already an honorary professor, a rank above hers!
But Blake interrupted again: "Tell her, just because she went abroad for a competition, she thinks she's all that? There are plenty of people more talented than she is! If she doesn't show up for class tomorrow, I'll make sure she's disciplined and has to retake the year!"
Blake had always had a thing against those with exceptional talents, so Flora was never her favorite. Now, she finally had her chance to criticize.
She didn't hold back: "Does she really think she won that competition all by herself? It was a team effort from the Austenberg crew!"
The other teachers in the office stayed silent, thinking Blake was being a bit too harsh. But with her promotion to full professor on the horizon, they didn't want to get on her bad side.
"Hey, Assistant Professor Lin, the university announcement is out! You might want to check it out!"
Suddenly, someone chimed in.
In an instant, Blake's focus shifted from belittling Flora to checking the announcement. She quickly opened the website.
The internet was dragging, so it took a moment to load.
"Assistant Professor Lin, oh, my bad, I should call you Professor Lin now," the other teachers joked.
"Professor Lin, leave some room for the rest of us. It's rare to see someone so young become a full professor."
A few teachers gathered around, offering their compliments.
Blake flashed a proud smile: "Dinner's on me later."
Just as she finished speaking, the webpage refreshed.
She scanned through the list of names carefully.
But her name wasn’t there.
