Chapter 1
Aurora’s POV
“Yeah! Faster! Right there, deeper!”
I heard another woman’s voice coming from inside my bedroom. Without a word, I closed the door and walked away.
I had been Xavier’s Luna for ten years, and in that time, he had slept with nearly every she–wolf in
our pack—including my friends.
I turned a blind eye to it all. I kept smiling through every pack event, pretending to be happy, even showing up for my prenatal checkups eight months pregnant, playing the role of the perfect mate.
No matter how many times he betrayed me, I endured it all in silence–clinging to that faint mate bond, to the promise he once made.
Even when my heart shattered like glass, I never uttered a word. I acted as though everything was
fine.
Until that day. I was on my way to another checkup. But fate had other plans–I watched Amara,
Xavier’s new flame, hit me with her car.
“Help…”
A sharp pain ripped through my abdomen. Blood gushed out, staining my once–white dress a deep
red.
I couldn’t stop myself from 8. My

voice trembled as I pleaded, “Xavier… take me to the
But he just stood there, watching coldly, his face twisted in disgust like I was a stranger. His indifference took my breath away.
“Aurora, when did you learn to fake accidents?”
“Stop pretending. No matter what kind of performance you put on, I won’t care. Even if you die right here in front of me, I won’t give you a second glance!”
After those cruel words, he turned and left–with Amara clinging to his arm–without a shred of
hesitation.
I lay on the ground, feeling the life inside me slowly slip away.
The pain was unbearable, beyond words.

But I thought of my baby.
With all the strength I had left, I crawled forward, leaving a trail of blood with each step, making my way to the pack doctor,
When I finally arrived, she rushed me straight into surgery.
On my way, I saw my mother, who had been staying in the hospital for years. She hurried over, panic written all over her face.
“Aurora? Are you okay? Why are you bleeding so much-?”
I wanted to tell the doctors to stop, to let me speak to her, but I was too weak. No sound came from
my mouth.
I reached out my hand. “Mom-”
But she collapsed to her knees, her face twisted in anguish, helpless as she watched me being wheeled into the operating room.
I reached for her again, but I couldn’t touch her.
Inside the operating room, right before the anesthesia kicked in, I heard the doctor whisper, “No heartbeat… we’re losing her-”
I closed my eyes, a tear slipping from the corner. Then everything went dark.
When I woke up, the one standing by my bed wasn’t Xavier–it was Jareth, the former Alpha of the pack. Xavier’s grandfather.
The look on his face told me everything–I had lost the baby.
His lips parted, as if to speak, but I cut him off. “I know.”
“I’m so sorry,” he said softly, head bowed. “But there’s more bad news.”
I stared at him, confused.
“Your mother… her heart condition relapsed. She’s gone.”
I gazed blankly at Alpha Jareth, too numb to feel anything. Not even tears came.
“Let me go,” I said quietly. “Whatever debt I owed the Darkfire Pack… I’ve paid it in full–with my life.”
In that moment, something in me completely died. There was nothing left worth holding on to.

My phone buzzed nonstop with incoming messages.
Photo after photo–Xavier and Amara together.
While I was fighting for my life during childbirth, they were in a hotel room, making love until
dawn.
Amara, covered in Xavier’s kiss marks, leaned against him with a smug, provocative smile.
Still unaware of the truth, Alpha Jareth tried to reason with me. He pulled out a transfer agreement and placed it on my bedside.
“Aurora, Xavier isn’t a bad kid at heart. You’re his mate, and you’ve loved him for so many years. Why not give him another chance? As long as I’m here, no one can take your Luna title from you.”
I didn’t answer. I simply tapped on a video Amara had sent me.
Their moans filled the hospital room.
Amara gasped, then asked, “Xavier, don’t you feel even a little guilty leaving Aurora bleeding on the street?”
Xavier, lips on Amara’s neck, his eyes hazy with lust, replied,
“What’s there to feel guilty about? You’re the one I love. Even if Aurora gives birth, she’ll never compare to you.”
The vile sounds made Alpha Jareth’s veins pop in fury. After a long, heavy sigh, he finally gave in.
“We’ve wronged you. I’ll handle the divorce. You’ll be free in seven days.”
“As for your mother’s and the baby’s funerals…”
Just then, the nurse brought the baby in.
It seemed even the Moon Goddess couldn’t bear to see me suffer in this marriage any longer. The child was born without breath.
I turned my head away, trying to steady myself.
“Bury the baby in the Darkfire Pack’s grave. I’ll take my mother’s ashes with me.‘
Alpha Jareth nodded, eyes filled with sorrow.
))
“This is my fault. I shouldn’t have forced you to stay. Go now–you deserve a bigger world.”
