Ulrik stared at a screen, not quite believing what he was seeing.

Three times. Three successes. Three spots atop the leaderboard.
There was hardly anyone on the list with their name on there more than once, and even then, their attempts were often years apart and with large gaps between their performances.
Not only was Sylas Grimblade somehow on top three out of three times, he had taken these attempts back to back to back, and as though all of that wasn’t bad enough, he surpassed second place by improving the time over 10x. There was less than a three-hour gap between fourth place and 97th, but Sylas alone opened a 13-hour gap.
It didn’t make any logical sense, not in the slightest bit.
Sylas had only just left, and yet not even three hours later, he had dropped a bomb on them all.
Despite all of this, this wasn’t what had Ulrik sitting here.
He could feel it. It wasn’t just the pressure of Sylas’ gaze back then, forcing him to pay attention to the Human for the first time since he met him, but it was something deeper than that.
He felt that there was a purpose behind this. A purpose that he couldn’t quite grasp, but somehow… he also knew that that other shoe was going to drop very soon.
And that it did.
BANG!
Ulrik’s laboratory door opened so viciously that it shattered against the Rune-protected walls. He was about to be furious when he saw who it was walked in.
He stood to his feet quickly.
"Father."
Ulrik bowed deep and low, all of his dissatisfaction vanishing in a puff of smoke. Before this chiseled man with a blood-red line running down the center of his forehead, Ulrik didn’t dare to be the slightest bit negligent.
He had been waiting for his father to come to scold him about his loss to a mere Human already, but he hadn’t appeared. Now that he had, Ulrik had a feeling that it was about this.
But he was wrong.
Belvont Vecunish looked at his bowing son and didn’t say a word that indicated he wanted the latter to rise. Instead, he slammed a palm on the workbench, triggering a mechanism within and opening up a holographic feed.
He swiped a hand.
