Joshua paused, frowning slightly as he glanced at her, before his gaze settled on Shawn standing behind Lillian. With a playful tone, he teased, "Hey Shawn, where's your gentlemanly charm today?"
Lillian froze, disbelief written all over her face as she stared at Joshua. Shawn’s expression darkened a bit as he locked eyes with Allison's calm gaze.
Maybe Allison hadn’t really moved on and was just pretending. If he helped another girl cross the river right in front of Allison, would she get jealous? With that thought, Shawn reached out to steady Lillian, his voice gentle. "Don’t worry, Lillian, I've got you."
Lillian looked down, whispering through clenched teeth so only Shawn could hear, "What are you doing? I wanted Joshua to help me."
Shawn replied, "And if he doesn’t want to help, are you planning to stand in the middle of the river forever?"
"Well, I don't need your help."
"You said it," Shawn shot back, suddenly letting go of her hand.
"Ah..." Lillian yelped, nearly losing her balance and almost falling into the river. Instinctively, she clung tightly to Shawn's hand, "Okay, just help me across first."
Shawn chuckled, rolling his eyes to himself.
Once Joshua made sure Lillian was alright, he decided not to worry and continued on his way. The group walked on, stopping every now and then, until evening set in.
The sun dipped low, painting the sky with vivid colors as birds made their way back to their nests. The horizon was a masterpiece of the setting sun.
Brian was the first to stop at a spot with a great view of the sunset, capturing the moment with his camera. Others followed suit, taking pictures of the breathtaking scene.
Sabrina, panting as she pushed forward with her walking stick, was caught candidly by Brian's camera.
Grinning mischievously, Brian said, "A new meme in 4K quality!"
Sabrina gritted her teeth. "Brian, delete it!"
