Joshua stood with his back to her, tall and imposing, his features chiseled and unyielding. As Sue poured out her heart, recounting the horrors she had endured, his expression remained as still as stone.

Sue's voice cracked with emotion, "Every day, I kept telling myself I had to survive, to get out alive, just to see you again. If I died, I'd never get to see you..."

"Joshua, please," she pleaded, her voice trembling, "I'm begging you, just stay with me. I'm losing my mind. Every time I close my eyes, those monsters are there. The pain inside is a thousand times worse than any physical pain..."

Her words were broken by her sobs. "Just talk to me, please? Even if it’s only to scold me... just don't leave... you're the only light in my life!"

Most men would be moved by a declaration of being someone's beacon of hope. But not Joshua. His heart remained untouched, and he didn't even spare her a backward glance.

Without hesitation, he turned and left. Sue watched the back of Joshua's indifferent, resolute figure disappear, and with it, the last spark of hope in her eyes faded away.

Outside the basement, Joshua turned to his bodyguard. "Find a way to get her to talk. We need useful information."

"Yes, sir."

Did he have compassion? Sympathy? Maybe he had them buried somewhere. But not for someone who had nearly harmed Allie. Just over a month ago, Sue had almost killed Allie. Anyone who threatened Allie would face the consequences.

Once outside the complex, Joshua checked his watch. It was ten o'clock. Allie would be waking up hungry.
