Haley furrowed her brow, frustration etched across her face. "All those rumors about Joshua and Lana are spreading like wildfire, and hardly anyone knows a thing about Lana's background. There's no way Chris could know either. The Owens family has been laying low for ages, so why would Chris suddenly kidnap Allie?"
Haley's rapid-fire questions left Ben with a pounding headache. Rubbing his temples, he replied, "How should I know? Joshua said he's on his way back. Let's wait and discuss a plan with him. Oh, and I'll call Javier to join us."
Haley was genuinely worried about Allison's safety. The thought of Chris being the kidnapper made her glare at Ben, muttering, "Chris, Chris, why is it always Chris? Ben, look at the mess you've made. If it wasn't for you back then..."
Ben was immediately irritated at the mention of past grievances, his patience wearing thin. "Enough with the old tales!" he snapped. "It's been years, and bringing it up now won't help. We should focus on staying calm and wait for Joshua to figure out how to rescue Allie."
Haley, incensed by Ben's outburst, raised her voice even further. "Old tales? What do you mean by that? Ben, ask yourself honestly, have I ever wronged you? Since marrying into the Fisher family, I've given my all to you and your family..."
"Enough!" Ben interrupted sharply. "This is not the time for arguments!" With that, he stormed off, retreating upstairs alone.
In the living room, Haley sat on the couch, her eyes welling up with tears. Ben always accused her of dredging up the past, but the issue from years ago had never truly been resolved. It was a thorn in her heart, an insurmountable obstacle.
