Allison stumbled along with Joshua into the local police station to give their statements. The officers’ attitudes shifted noticeably once they realized who Joshua was. They told Joshua that a man had called in the report, and they'd managed to trace his identity. It turned out to be Zach.
An officer explained to Joshua, "The caller said his girlfriend was kidnapped to Maplewood and mentioned that the kidnappers might be armed. We launched a search right away, and by the time we got there..." All these details were shared with Joshua alone; Allison was left in the dark.
Their statements were wrapped up quickly. As Allison stepped out of the room, an officer told them, "You can go now."
"Officer, please! My sister has been kidnapped. You’ve got to save her... The guy who took her is a lunatic. She's only eight years old. If he gets his hands on her..." Allison's voice wavered, and she was on the brink of tears.
Even though Lizzy was her stepsister, Allison had grown to truly love her. In her heart, she had already accepted Linda and her daughter as her own family. The thought of losing Lizzy was unbearable.
The officer responded, "The suspect fled across the border in a helicopter. We're trying to coordinate with the American authorities for help. We’ll let you know as soon as we have any news."
Maplewood was close to the border, and the abandoned building Chris picked wasn't far off. The helicopter quickly crossed over into American territory, putting them beyond local law enforcement's reach. The police in Allison's country had to reach out to their American counterparts to request Chris's capture. Chris and Liam had flown off, but his other accomplices were caught.
