Girl Get Rid Of That Jerk (Williams and Shawn) novel Chapter 318

Allison stood there, rooted to the spot, as the familiar figure approached, his sharp features becoming clearer through the curtain of rain. Just a few strides away, the dampness seemed to soften the man's typically stern demeanor.

Joshua stopped in front of her, his dark eyes radiating warmth and joy. His voice had a rough edge to it, "Allie..."

Allison's gaze remained cool, her head slightly tilted up to meet his eyes. "Do you need something?"

Joshua swallowed, "Lizzy's been rescued."

Allison's eyes flew open, her voice rising with excitement. She stepped forward, clearly eager, "Really? Where is she? Has she come back yet? Take me to her!"

Joshua responded gently, "Yeah, she just got to Oak Lake. I came to let you know."

"I’m coming with you." Allison's eyes began to well up, "Thank you..."

Joshua’s throat felt tight, his voice husky, "No need for thanks between us."

As they walked to the car, Joshua opened the door for her, instinctively placing his hand on the top of the doorframe to protect her from bumping her head.

Allison noticed.

Her eyelashes fluttered as she looked down, remaining silent.

Joshua closed her door and made his way to the driver’s side.

"Want to grab some breakfast first?" he asked, glancing at Allison through the rearview mirror while they waited at a red light.

Allison shook her head, "No, I just want to see Lizzy as soon as possible."

"Alright." Joshua didn’t push further.

He pulled out his phone and texted Thomas.

[Have breakfast ready: pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, and fresh fruit.]

These were Allie's favorite Western-style breakfast dishes.

Thomas: [Got it, Joshua.]

Inside the car, it was just the two of them, the silence hanging in the air.

The light turned green.
