In a fit of anger, he declared that if any lawyer dared to take the Zimmermans’ case, he’d have Vince handle the matter for them.
Sandra and Abell finally understood. No wonder Jessica was determined to get a divorce—Timothy had pulled so many reckless stunts, and on top of that, he’d tried to force her hand with such aggressive tactics.
And then, as if that weren’t enough, he’d forced himself on her.
This was nothing like the grandson they had helped raise.
Timothy had spent most of his childhood living with the Howards, and much of his character and manners had been shaped by Sandra and Abell.
But now, it was as if that boy was gone.
Abell, fuming, said, “Larkin, you did the right thing. Timothy’s in the wrong here, and I support you. When I get home tonight, I’ll have a serious talk with him. Let him get this divorce over with—no point in ruining that girl’s life any longer.”
“Exactly. I need to talk some sense into him too. His behavior is out of line—he’s shown no dignity at all.”
Sandra and Abell took turns scolding Timothy, not holding back their disappointment.
Larkin let out a long sigh. “It’s easy to say all this now. I was so angry that night I just had to step in. You know, it’s not easy for two people to make a marriage work. At our age, all we hope is that the younger generation can find some happiness together. It’s not that I really want to see them divorce. If they do, it’s the child who suffers most.”
For their generation, loyalty to marriage meant something different. Even when things weren’t perfect, once you were married, you stuck it out and did everything you could to make it work.
But now, with the younger generation, the divorce rate was so high, it made them anxious.
Sandra nodded. “You’re right, but Timothy really crossed the line this time. Jessica’s set on getting a divorce—their court date’s almost here. I say we don’t complicate things. I’ll talk to Timothy, tell him to end things peacefully. We won’t be stingy with alimony, and when it comes to Henry, I’ll make sure Jessica gets first choice.”
Sandra and Abell headed back to The Gilded Whisper Estates. Timothy was working in his study when they entered together.
