Chapter 456
Agnes continued, “Look Laura, losing money isn’t a big deal, but if your reputation gets smeared, it can’t be restored. You’ve climbed the social ladder by being associated with Mr. Berlin, do you really give a damn about these assets?”
Her words hit Laura hard.
She could always make money again.
But if she got slapped with the label of marital infidelity, that stain might stick for life.
Plus, with Preston still in the hospital, the public pressure would be enormous.
Berlin was already looking very unhappy, and if she were to get completely angry then everything she had worked so hard for might be destroyed. Wrapping her head around all this, Laura made up her mind on the spot, “Fine, I’ll sign. I agree to your terms. But how the hell am I supposed to trust you, Agnes?“”
“Ms. Laura, you ain’t got much of a choice.”
Laura was very uncomfortable. But she swallowed the emotion and signed it. She knew a bit about Agnes, the girl was sharp but had a good heart.
She hadn’t divorced Preston yet.
As long as Agnes wasn’t provoked, she would likely consider Preston’s dignity.
So she wasn’t really worried Agnes would deliberately go public with what happened today.
Agnes was doing this just to stop her from selling off the Pritchard family’s old house.
Yet, Laura still couldn’t figure out how Agnes got wind of her plans, or if Agnes had been planning this trap all along.
As Laura signed, Beatrice was fuming at her side, “Mom, are you seriously going to hand over all of the Pritchard family’s assets to this bitch? What about me? Weren’t those houses supposed to be mine?”
Laura snapped, “Do you want to see me being pointed at and gossiped about? Do you want to see my face plastered all over the front page of the tabloids tomorrow?”
Beatrice stormed out of the room.
Laura passed the signed papers to Agnes, a smirk playing on her lips, “Agnes, I really underestimated you. Since you’ve surprised me today, I have a big surprise for you too.”
Agnes had a bad feeling about this.
Laura leaned in close to Agnes and whispered, “I’ll let you in on a secret about Alyssa…”
After hearing Laura, Agnes was like a statue, frozen in place.
She felt ice cold, as though her blood was running backwards.
